It was made to be like that. Hence the name.

It was mainly intended for use in direct die situations i.e laptops and GPUs where pump out is a thing with more watery/less viscous pastes e.g MX-4

It’s here! Gonna put it on the lappy soon

update : why i didnt buy this sooner.... this thing is amazing.., also i hate my fat fingers... not cut out for these kinds of delicate work

Hi, my graphics card has PTM7950 as stock, if I remove the cooler and put it back together (when its cold) is that ok? or should I buy another piece of PTM7950 and redo it

Thanks :)

If you manage to remove the cooler without damaging, it could be reused.
Just keep in mind for optimal thermal conductivity it has to have a perfect fit between silicon & coldplate.
Due to the first application it most likely is already deformed in a shape, so waay off from that perfect fit when reusing it.

I would advise to replace it with new PTM7950 or equivalent.

Same goes for the thermal pads of the VRAM & VRM's.

Can you recommend me decent thermal pads for VRAM? Something that's widely available, ideally from Aliexpress I guess since that's where I'll be buying the 7950 from.

I could join and ask the same question.

Thermalright pads any good? Anyone with a first hand experience? Leaking, drying up?

Any good?

BTW I do hate the pads. Cutting them to the exact dimensions, stacking them up when there's no right thickness available... it's a chore no doubt.

I've been reading up on this have been wanting to try some. There seems to be some merit to the claims that thermal putty is very effective.

I found some listings for the Upsiren U6 Pro, but the prices are very different.
this one has the 50g package four times cheaper than the claimed official Upsiren store here https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005006170509617.html
Does that mean the first listing is fake? I don't understand Ali.
In the official store, the U6 PRO
is even more expensive than the UTP-8
The reason? I do not know, maybe wrong price or new batch
The only fake U6 PRO I know is not from China, but Greece the CSGR.

Well, I do not think the https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005008513781022.html is fake, maybe an old batch. It is in promotion "SuperDeals".
Also, are the PTM7950 listings on Ali fake or legit?
It's controversial, read all the comments Non fakes from https://www.moddiy.com/products/Honeywell-PTM7950-SP-Super-Highly-Thermally-Conductive-PCM-Pad.html
IF you buy from AliExpress, buy from a reliable store, check the number of items sold and the Customer Reviews.
Some have sold more than 1000 items!

What's UTP-8? Something better?

And there are different batches that work differently? :o

Ok I am confused now, why was the U6 Pro recommended?

What should I actually buy on Ali then?

Who recommended it?
Veseleil asked if it's good and it is, but I posted a PNG showing that there are better stuff.

I would buy the UTP-8.

BTW, seems to be legit
The main problem with the Honeywell ptm7950 is that it needs more than 45°C
and matching surfaces to have sufficient pressure.

EDIT: It is not 60°C, but 45°C.

Oh. I don't know. I am tired AF and am pretty confused by this thread, lol.
UTP-8 then.
They have an identical listing in the supposedly official Ali store though, only the price is different. Which one should I buy?

edit:
I also have no idea how much do I need for one card. I found a video on Yt where a guy was applying it on the same card (7900 XTX) and said 50g wasn't enough to cover all the chips. WTF? That doesn't sound right.

And since I would be paying for shipping already, what's the 7950 knockoff from them like? Is it worth it? I see PCM-1 and PCM-2.

The main problem with the Honeywell ptm7950 is that it needs more than 60°C
How is that a problem? Like constant 60°+ in order to work at all?

You forgot to write anything :D

I do not think there is fake UTP-8 or U6 PRO in AliExpress.

Looks good to me, I do not know what is the difference between PCM1 vs PCM-2.

AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!
It is not 60°C but 45°C!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! SORRY!!!!!!
At 45°C it melts and transfer the heat efficiently.

You forgot to write anything :D
I'm tired too, sorry!

As the name says it is Phase Change material. It needs to change phase to reach it's full potential as thermal condtivity material and that is at a certain temperature.

Not so sure about the 60 degrees Celsius thoug, I thought it was around 40 degrees Celsius, at least it is for the TG sheet I use.

My bad, it is 45°C.

Hm, figuring out the amount of the chewing gum will be a problem. I don't want to end up with too little, but at the same time it's not that cheap to just go for 100g right away.
