OK, so the 6800 XT, and whole system is under water :D
As expected, made some rookie water build mistakes, as in did not think of how the tubes would go, hence had to do some getto routing, but all good for a start.
The gpu cooling is insane with this setup, even after 1 hour furmark with the hottest setting I could figure out, it never went above 60 and 80 on the hotspot. General gaming is like max 50 and 70 on hotspot, the more demanding games.

Tried a 2.75ghz OC, it was running, but I am 99.9% sure it had not enough power for that clock. It needs moooar powaah :rockout:
Any of you have experience with the More Power Tool, as in, can you increase available power, and if yes, does it actually allow the card to draw more?
I had a nice experience long time ago with a rx 480, modded it and let is use 300w, basically double what it should have, I can only dream of what the 6800 XT could do with lets say a 450w limit
Great that you got your first custom loop. :peace:

The More Power tool is what I am using all the time and mentioned it lot of times here in the forum as MPT (More Power Tool). ;)
Before you try something if you don't remember it anymore then I would suggest to have a look at the this good article at Igor's Lab about using MPT:
https://www.igorslab.de/en/the-grea...ith-big-navi-and-the-morepower-tool-practice/

The setting that I am using in MPT can be seen above at post #118. ;)

Just a piece of advice. As you have reference card with 2x8pin connectors, the maximum power draw should not be allowed to go above 375W.
Below you see the screen shot from More Power Tool with marked in yellow two field that one can modify. The above linked guide explains more.

The Power Limit GPU (default 255W) is the GPU core power only but not the total power of the GPU.
TDC Limit GFX (defualt 300A) is the current drawn by the GPU.
I would not advice to set it more than 290W here if you are also going to use the Power Limit (%) slider in the Radeon driver at 15%.
If you set here 290W you need to add to it 15% from Radeon settings which means 290x1.15=333.5W power to the GPU core only.

Now you need to add to that another 45W for other components in the GPU like the VRAM which means total power consumption of the GPU would be 45+333.5=378.5W.
You see that with this you are on the limit of 375W allowed for 2x8pin cards.

Now this also tells us that we have maximum headroom of 375W-300W=75W maximum to play with.
We should not increase more than that. I actually don't plan to push my card more than 361W for daily use.
That is why I set 275W at Power Limit GPU field.

You should not go to 450W. There is a risk you burn your VRMs on the GPU.
Only for some short Benchmark it could be okay but not when running something long term.
If you had one of those cards that has 3x8pin then you would have 525W limit. (150W from each 8pin plus 75W from PCIe slot)

Thank you for the info on limits, quite familiar with them, would assume those are the values you use. And Igor is on my watchlist, funny guy, like him.
I did notice your posts on MPT, wanted to know if from your experience the power limits are actually raised, heard AMD does not really allow it even if you set other limits, they stay the same, hence my question. Did you notice the card drawing more or close to what you set?

And regarding the max drawn via the 2x8 pin power cables, they can draw quit a lot more if they are not utter crap quality and if the PSU can deliver, but yeah, the VRMs could get in trouble with a lot more power in :D
I had a AMD RX 480 bios modded, and that drew up to 300w over a 1x6 pin power cable, still works to this day in a friends PC, but I would not risk the same with the 6800XT, its a bit to expensive to play with it to close to the edge :)

Oh, and I would sooo love to be able to modify the bios on this 6800 XT and be able to write it to the card, AMD should cater to the enthusiasts, but sadly its just becoming a red Nvidia

I did some measurements with HWINFO on the power supply level some time ago on 6800XT.
I have Corsair HX1200i supply that has built in sensors that I can read through the HWINFO and I see higher power consumption.
I have evaluated these before with excel  to see the power increase on the GPU with overclocking like I wrote here:

I have not done that recently since I played a lot with setting in the last day but I have some log files recorded.
If I get the chance this weekend I can make some analysis and give the feedback here.

The bios moding may come at some time. At least there is a tool that allows us to flash the bios now for 6800XT. ;)
I have it at the moment but I am no expert in moding bioses.
I did that long time ago for mainboards, but have not done that since ages. :D

This tool allows to save also the full bios 1024kB.
GPU-Z allows to save only partial bios which has half the size 512kB.
If somebody come with the idea of flashing one of the bioses from TPU database he can brick his card as bios file size is wrong.
That is why I would not like to share the tool here.
I found it in another forum. :D

I bios modded every card I could, but since this gen is sort of locked regarding bios writing, I am a bit uneasy about the idea of playing the odds. And its not only the fact that its not a cheap card, even if I would kill it for good, which is unlikely, I could not get a replacement, the market is horrible for buyers of GPUs right now....
From experience, bricking the card via bad or wrong bioses is not such a big deal, if you have a minimal knowledge on the subject you can un-brick it rather easy, happened to me many times, not one card was permanently dead.
But, if AMD have a change of heart, which I highly doubt, and the modd community start playing around with it, count me in, hell yeah! :D

I find the lack of fans disturbing, especially on the top radiator which should have the fans blowing through the radiator and out of the case.

:D :D :D they are only missing in the picture, but they are there, 2 fans on each radiator, its just that they are "above" the rads :D:D:D
And no, I want them blowing air from outside the case inside the case, then exhaust it via case fan, case temp increase is basically irrelevant for me, speaking of 5-10 C max extra inside, but I can run the rad fans quieter this way, less need to ramp up
No way in hell would I run a radiator without a fan

It seems that although my RX 6900 XT is quite capable of playing COD MW Warzone at 3840x1080, very high to max ingame setting, with RT enabled, I'd just gotten a freeze (reported via AMD Bug Report). Anyone else having this issue? It seems the RT crash with Metro Exodus has more or less been resolved, RT with DOC MW WZ may be buggy, though I'd need to see if any others has the issue. I've disabled RT and the game seems to be fine though.

Hi, everyone, I join the family!
This is my XFX 319 modded in white, hope you like it!

I couldn't stand that terrible MERC sign, it reminded me of that overused Mistral font in the 90s, so... :D

Next step: install a RGB strip behind the Radeon logo bracket, because its "white" is a lilac purple, conflicting with almost every RGB theme I make...

I didn't OC yet, without doing anything the TimeSpy is at 16352, I'll let you know the results!

Welcome to the club that looks really nice.:)

My 6800XT reference card with waterblock is currently lying in the closet.
It will go to eBay to be sold in the near future.
It was one of great performers for a 6800XT cards, but i was looking for even more performance with 3×8 pin version.

I have bought PowerColor 6900XT Red Devil. I am woking on tuning that one now to get maximum performance out of that. :D
Water block for that Devil is ordered but will come end of March.

"reminded me of that overused Mistral font in the 90s" that's what a graphic designer would say :D

So I am expermenting with my new PowerColor Red Devil 6900XT. :D

2675MHz@1065mV is stable setting with MPT set to 330W and 384A TDC additionally with 15% power limit in Radeon Software. :rockout:
VRAM is set stable at 2120MHz with fast timing.

Time Spy Score:

Port Royal Score:

I am not able to go higher than 2675MHz without crash.
I can set 2700MHz@1070mV where Time Spy is stable but not Port Royal.

I tried higher and lower voltages but it seems 2675MHz is maximum I can achieve.

Alphacool waterblock is ordered but delivery is start of April.
I believe it is possible to get even higher performance ones watercooled.

Seems you get basically almost the same performance vs the good clocking 6800XT from before. The 6900XT might need moar power. The difference between them should be around 10%, and your highly OC-ed 6800XT was already above stock 6900XT. Same argument like the one between the 3800 and 3900, except that had a lot more Vram in the discussion. The 6900XT should have not really existed, or at least not at the 1k price-point :) Greedy AMD

I have to ask who pay more than MSRP for their RX 6000 series cards?
I was in a way lucky, I paid what would be normally the MSRP in my country for the 6800XT, but that was launch day, I would not pay todays prices under no circumstance.

I initially said, after 5 gens of AMD Gpus, I'll get an Nvidia this gen, the 3080 got out, could have bought it 5 times for a plus ranging from EUR 300 to 500 extra, I said no each time, then the 6800XT launch came, was MSRP, got it.

I will not now or ever buy at scalper prices

That's odd, for me this is by far the most stable card and set of drivers I have ever had

Indeed disappointing performance.
I expected much better and less power hungry.
You need to push it by about 65W to get 5% higher performance than my supper great efficient 6800XT. :kookoo:

I am returning this card and keeping my 6800XT. :D

6900XT experiment failed for me.

I'm happy with my Nitro+ RX 6900 XT, not a great OC'er, but it does what I need it to do.....handle games at max setting (no RT of course) with great framerates. Can't tell you guys how much fun it is to play all my games at max setting @ 3840x1080, and still net >100fps in a whole bunch of 'em.

I've even tried Metro Exodus with RT at High and still net quite playable framerate, but to be honest, Metro Exodus doesn't need scoring high framerate for smooth gameplay. Now, I'm awaiting AMD to release their FidelityFX Super Resolution and see how much it's gonna help with games with RT.

how the heck did you get your hands on that lovely card? just lucky like I was? I'm still a bit bummed I didn't get a 6800 XT, but thankful I got anything at all. I love my card, its been rock solid stable... I get around 2475mhz in all demanding games - and my hotspot only reaches 80 celsius, and thats rare and doesn't last long, actual gpu temp reading barely ever breaks 60-62 celsius... keep in mind I use an aggressive fan curve.

Sorry to hear that. o_O
I guess you were just unlucky.
My 6800XT is rock stable with decent OC running since now two months.
I can't say much about 6900XT Red Devil. I had it only for 3days.
I am now returning it not because of any stability issues but because I was disappointed by its performance gains over the 6800XT.

I have a really good reference 6800XT but thought a 3x8pin higher binned Red Devil 6900XT could give me another 8-10% performance but I could only achieve 5% extra over 6800XT with 65W more power consumption.

The plan was to sell 6800XT with high OC potential on eBay for a very good price but I guess I keep it but return 6900XT.

C'mon, guys, surely there're more than two RX 6000 series owners here.....

Well, gee, I'd love to have a 6000 (or even a 5000) series card, but I'm rather fond of my lungs, heart and kidneys, and poor, so I guess I'm stuck with my 1660 Super

if you try to get a 6700 xt on launch day direct from amd.com store for 479 bucks, you can prob sell that 1660 super more than what you paid for it... i'd wait until the 6700 xt is in your hands though and don't pay for it more than msrp. looks like 1660 super is selling for 350 bucks on ebay. so yeah would be a very nice upgrade... problem is can you get one on march 18th. the trick is don't click insanely fast. i just clicked every 4 seconds or so. for some reason it worked and i got my 6800 non-xt launch day. its worth a try. and if you succeed sell your 1660 super to cover the cost.
