The Witcher 3 Next-Gen Update Adds Higher-res Textures, Ray Traced GI, DLSS and FSR 2

I think i could play it at a capped 30 fps with a controller. Last time i wen thru this series of games was in 2016 when Blood and Wine came out. I think i had a GTX 970 back then and it got around 50 or so fps. with high settings in 1440p. But RT is killing it even on a 4080 at 4K:

Newer than a 12600K that is barely a year or so old ? ha ! :)

Well the one who was complaining about low GPU usage in their specs said they had a 6-7 old cpu so.

Ahhhhh I see, no install and therefore not showing even if it is in your library installed or not seems odd.

The original game shows, and I managed to find the article about the update. :) I was only looking for something else - kind of like when Death Stranding Director's Cut came out, which is a separate entry in my library than the original game.

When RT is enabled, the game become quickly CPU bound, Even with a 13900K. It might not be possible right now to get really good RT perf with current CPU.

Might need a 7xx0 X3D or next gen intel to acheive stable FPS above 60. It's not being hold back top end GPU right now.
CPU bound RT? This is something new. :(

DLSS 2.5.0 from TPU works wonders!

Something is really strange, with Frame Generation on, i get 2-10fps, basically a slideshow for most of the time, cutscenes take forever and CPU is sitting at 60°C, GPU under 50°C with fans off. If i turn Frame Generation off and use normal DLSS on balanced, it's 80fps, CPU at 85°C and GPU at 62°C, so both doing their job.

@AsRock that's my old platform. This was on an 11700K and 3800MHz 2x16 DR.
@AusWolf RT being CPU intensive is nothing new, it just never gets talked about.

Are you sure you turned "frame generation" on, and not "frame degeneration"? :p Sorry, couldn't resist.

3080TI 110FPS all Ultra+ with Hair works on and DLSS Quality, turn on base RT and my frame rate is in half with really no visible difference. Each RT i turn on from there take my frame rate down 5 FPS till i end at around 35 FPS with all RT on.

PS i am playing this at 4k

Can't get ray tracing options to work at all. :(

Kinda makes me wanna buy an RTX 4090, but nah... nice try

You sure? I tried with whatever it came with and this 2.5 and nothing. DLSS doesn't seem to be working correctly. With RT off I get the same FPS with DLSS as I do with their anti-aliasing setting. Doesn't seem to work much at all with RT on. Same thing with someone I know and a 3080ti.

Maybe the label on the setting option is wrong because that's what it does, yeah

There are multiple reports of crashes in the steam thread. The game is still listed as "Windows 7 Compatible".

The game loads here "windows 7" & I can get to the main menu. When I click to start any quest it starts to load then crash. Not sure if there is a roll back but I do have a back-up of the old version..

EDIT: It looks like only the GOG version you can roll-back.

30 FPS on a 6750 XT at 1080p, Ultra+ settings, FSR Quality... which would be fine if not for the micro-stutters that gave me a headache after just 10 minutes! Did no one test this update? :(

Right-click the game in Steam, choose Properties, Beta, select Classic (v1.32)

Same process in GOG Galaxy’s equivalent settings.

Hmm decided to record gameplay to put on youtube, a little without FG and then turn on FG to show the stutter and unplayable mess, but was a bit further along than yesterday and it seems to be working more or less fine now, getting around 100FPS compared to 80FPS with DLSS on Quality. It drops to 2FPS for a second or two probably to compile after a cut scene or new area, but can actually play it now and fight with FG on

at around 3:25 after closing the fast travel screen it does what it did all the time yesterday and even this afternoon, but otherwise fine. Not sure why the Nvidia overlay isn't captured as it was turned on obviously :kookoo:

There is a lot of close pop in's of shadows and light patches in your video, noticed that while playing a bit too, and frame pacing seems all over the place in my experience, even at 60+ fps. Hope they work on it a bit, its rather crude at the moment, and my favorite game of all time can't be in such a state :)

Make sure you have the latest drivers from your GPU vendor. Other just crash.

But it look like there is few trend.

- Without latest drivers, be prepare to crash
- You need to restart the game after every change in the settings EVEN if the game doesn't ask you to do so
- If you dont want to use RT, use DirectX11 mode that have all the same graphic update as non RT Max detail but without so much stutter
- Some people report that renaming/deleting the file in the Game folder\Bin\x64_dx12\ named d3d11on12.dll help with the stutter. Not sure, i think it did for me, but also renaming it allow overlay like steam or RTSS to work properly.

Yeah i hope they fix it, even if i open the menu and close it, it needs a few seconds of stuttering, then it's good to go. Never played it in the last 7 years and put in 6.5 hours since yesterday lol, so i know what you mean, can become a favorite game very quickly :D
