The world's first carbon-based CPU cooler

Here is a silly fact, whilst we're talking about diamonds, do you know that the Diamond is the most thermally conductive material around, so if you can make a HS out of Diamond, it will be the most efficient cooler available, not to mention the most expensive as well.

That's the way things are going. When the can get the costs of manufacturing industrial diamonds, then you'll see things such as diamond HS one day. They use diamond coatings on the space shuttle windows already.

Nope, just saw it on a documentary about Diamonds on the Discovery channel.
 
I think per year, 30 tons of natural diamonds and 30 tons of synthetical diamonds are produced. Read that a few months ago at least. Or was it 20 tons? Dunno

tons, jeez, why are they so expensive then..... lol
how do you make a window, you would have to make the window out of one giant diamond and cut it, even the artificial machines cant even make the size of the biggest naturally occurring diamond, it must be some compound closely resembling it... and the bigger the fake diamond the longer they take, the little ones take months in those huge machines, to make even a small window size i cant imagine what the pressure tank would look like

Yeh, the whole diamond industry is mostly controlled by De Beers and they stash away a lot of them to keep the market high, like O.P.E.C does with oil. I heard before if De Beers released all there diamonds at once they would be almost worthless. There also deep in the synthetic diamond industry.
You can get diamond dust/powder for pretty cheap,I found this site selling it for $.50 a carat.
Where my dad worked they used it in water jets to cut tank armor.

Looks like a POS. Big, heavy, likely capable of snapping your mobo in half and doesnt look all that great. I bet it cools worse than some current CPU coolers.

I knew these passive water type coolers would be coming soon !! The heat from the CPU will make the water rotate with in the cooler with out any thing else besides gravity helping .

NOT PASSIVE!!!!!

I think dust should work for a A.S type past as long it's fine enough. Seems like someone would have done it if it was really worth it though, since the price is really not that high.
If carbon is so light and heat conductive why not make the big pipe in the middle[ that is a big metal pipe the fins are hooked to right]out of it too, thats got to be the bulk of the weight. Just think what the price will be on this thing:eek:

I - water, the water does not move, its just there as a cundoctor thing imo
 
did a little looking in to the diamond thing and found that they are used as heat conductors already, that synthetic diamonds are better[ natural=4x better synth=5x then copper], the efficiency increases as temps drop and a carat = 0.2 grams. I believe diamond dust is a byproduct of polishing rough diamonds so is probably full of impurities but at even 3x copper it's pretty good.

The base is comprised of carbon nanotubes which i believe act like molecule-sized heatpipes.

How do nanotubes act like heatpipes? and even if this were true, how would this be beneficial, a heatpipe needs a heatsink, just throwing heatpiupes together doesn't garantee better operation. Nanotubes could be helpful, you could make a very dense material, faster heat transfer maybe, lower thermal resistance. Not sure how they could act like a heatpipe though.

Taling of diamonds tho, I grafted a diamond base into a HS once (my old man is a jeweller, so he has all the tools an stuff) it actually worked pretty well.
