I've had this PC for a while now and I haven't a clue what to do with it. It's running

AMD Athlon 900MHz
ASUS A7V-VM
128MB SDRAM 133MHz
20GB IDE Hard Drive (Probably 5400RPM)
AGP ASUS GeForce 2 32MB
Creative Sound Blaster 128 PCI

Any ideas?

see if you can get 4 ghz!
no, but seriously, check if clockgen supports your board, if it does, oc the hell outta it, you might get 1.5!

Play the old DOS games? Maybe Halflife?

NOT TRUE i have one of those graphics card i run warcraft 3 on full it doesn't even drop a frame!!!!!

of coarse, its on a faster comp than that..........lol

oc it! cmon, you know you want to!

clockgen, young padawan!

Yeah, that pc isnt really worth anything :(

try a duron applebread, check the asus specs the board should support it, they run 25bucks and at stock at 1.6/1.8gz good upgrades for those old boxes if they are socketA, if not then find a used but working athlon classic 1.4 and throw it in, toss in some more ram, get it to at least 768, run windows 2k on it, and you will have an nice web broswer and old skool gamer box.

just because its old dosnt mean its bad, i got a duron 900@1035 that runs old games and apps fine, also run desktop bsd at full speed!!!!! its got 768mb ram, 12gb bigfoot hdd(slow fuker) and a stock athlon xp cooler!!!!

the duron applebread is basickly a stiped down tbred-b core, if u get an unlock kit you can mod it to run high multi on old systems, seen them do 2.4-2.6gz if properly brige moded and thats on OLD motherboards that dont support overclocking in bios!!!

you could always you the case and getta a new and very cheap combo.....

i would try and see if systool works.....

Maybe? Halflife runs on a Pentium 1.

True, he might be able to squeak out Morrowind decently enough, it ran pretty good on my 600MHZ celeron with a Geforce 2 MX.

wow that thing is one old puppy. You should really have at least a 2ghz processor by now.

throw a brick at it? :D

seriously tho, aint much u can do with it, try grabbing a 60GB HDD for it and a 9600XT (the ones with BGA memory not the shitty TSOP memory) plonk 1 or 2 256MB PC133 modules in it and thats about it really. you could try finding a faster cpu that the board supports too, but ultimately any upgrade on that thing is pretty worthless.

for gaming its old, for anything else it just needs more ram really!!!!

and that 900mhz athlon is faster then a 2gz p4 ;)

no. no its not. a 900mhz amd athlon is as fast as a p4 1.35 ghz proc.

Which don't exist. Plus, even a Willamette could kick an Athlon in certain tests, so taking speed as a single value is a bit silly.
Doesn't that board support some Athlon XP? Then again you'd basically be building a completely new machine. Only the board would stay. Personally I wouldn't invest in it.

u could always buy a tv card and HD for it and use it as media center pc

i also have an older pc with similiar specs. i got a couple of USB gamepads and made it an emulator box. when its not doing that, its a folding box!
