I've not had an MSI board in many years. Last year I bought one. To give a whirl. And recklessly and carelessly beat the Fk out of it.
MSI Z690-A DDR4.
What's so special?
Have overclocked at least 3 different processors in it. Big whoop, pfft.
Well they where done with a variety from Air, water, water chilled, DryIce, and I think even once with LN2 (That shit is too expensive for thrills these days)
I ripped one of the PCI-E sockets off. Had to cut a bunch of pins off the board, but left some that weren't smashed together and touching.
My ring has arched across cpu pins on the back side when lifting it up to check for condensation.
It's been dropped on the floor. From about 3 feet high. Swooped the foot in to slow it down, so it turned.
Had a little water spill, but it wasn't conductive. Paper towel that mess blew the board off with compressed air feom the hotdog compressor.
After all that, besides thermal paste messes, cold temps several times. This board still works!!!
So I take my hat off to MSI, even their entry level boards are very robust these days. 2010, the board would have been dead by now.
Gonna grab the Z790 model of this board and give it the beans. See how that works out. Hopefully I can achieve the same experience.
This one gets to retire.
6.9ghz 2x cores. But it's just a 200$ board and some dryice haha. Good stuff.
Should I give the board away to someone?
