Thoughts on adding downvote capability?

this is how mods can mod effectively...

You seriously think moderators will sift through all that and waste their time making presumptions on why I downvote particular content ? Even if they do , why would they do anything about it ? It's a dislike button and I am supposed to use it on whoever I want.

I'm not disagreeing but on the other hand just go ahead and implement the new system.

In 6 months you will know if it's working and how much extra effort has to be made behind the curtains.
Really, I don't care much either way. It shouldn't affect me. If it does and I get banned, oh well!!! Its not like I am missing out on anything in these forums and I can read reviews without being logged in. Or, if I wanted back in, I'd simply create another account since their ability to keep dupe accounts managed is quite questionable (cough sew33/litwicki24 and his dozen others I found here). ;)

I'm just speaking my mind and hoping to thwart efforts which, IMO, will not be successful. I am all for making this a better place. It has a ton of potential. :)

There isn't 'all that'. You can simply run a query on the very things you mention and you can even automate that. It's all data...

I'll do all of what Vayra86 asks if he'll pay my salary.

I don't really care how it would be done , I am questioning the purpose behind it.

Hey, the explanations and advice is free, how bou' da

I am an IT consultant IRL, so... :D

@W1zzard Could apply for an EU Research Grant on Human behavior Study

I was thinking psychology or Poli Sci:
Thanks Wiki.
Political science comprises numerous subfields, including comparative politics, political economy, international relations, political theory, public administration, public policy, and political methodology. Furthermore, political science is related to, and draws upon, the fields of economics, law, sociology, history, philosophy, geography, psychology, and anthropology.

Speaking of someone who has banned 36 of his accounts, 21 of which were detected by me and not reported by others (yes in this particular case it's a hobby of mine), on this point I would have to disagree. The current system at our disposal is much more efficient now, even dynamic and sometime proxy IP's can be suitably tracked.

Of course, anyone and everyone could consistently down vote, however should that be the case, would the community be worth saving anyway? All it would serve is to reduce the credibility of those who under normal circumstances behave in a positive manner ( lets use you as an example) which would probably make you not want to come back in another guise in any case............. so I suppose everyone loses.

Have there been many low quality posts since this was initiated?

I havent noticed many.
you also filter out the people and messages you don't like to hear or see - either by ignoring them or by the way your mind absorbs the information. We all do this, every day, both consciously and unconsciously. We even do most of this based on first impressions.

I just put douchebags on ignore who have directly insulted me, I no longer waste my time or energy on them considering moderators can't be every where any how. My list is pretty big at that.

If you'll allow me; I've also noticed you getting heated up quite quickly as of late when offering help or advice that isn't picked up on. Would it not be nice if the overall tendency gets a positive turn? Just reporting things on its own won't do that, especially to newer members.

I say this because I know exactly how this feels and works with myself, while I also consider that the reason I visit TPU or forums in general is either to learn or read something new, or get a good feeling from helping someone out.

EDIT: And I said I'd stop posting an hour ago lol. This can't be healthy

I report and typically don't see it handled.
Well, that is the thing. You didn't SEE anything but that doesn't mean it wasn't handled. Perhaps they got an infraction but their point total wasn't enough for a ban?

At OCF when users report a post, our staff is told to edit out the offending material (if other parts of the post are good/helpful), or delete the post if it was all garbage. I am not sure what their policy is here. Just keep doing your job and the staff should continue to do theirs.

I'm to the point, by the way I have changed the way I write for the most part. Mods and Wizz can testify on that front

Trust me I do my job, I won't quit my day job either because being here doesn't pay the bills lol.

i dont have anyone on ignore, never have. I dont ignore anyone in real life either and that includes my neighbour and shes a right twat.

I'm throwing you under the bus here.
You are an enthusiastic poster on TPU.
You have posted in this and the other related thread regarding this matter.
So you do care, otherwise why the effort.
TPU has existed for quite some time and I was reading here for some time before I officially joined. I may have made an account in 2007 looking for an answer, just could never remember the original account details. This is my go to site, as I feel it has a more professional feel.
Just look at the responses from Vayra86.
The tone has changed from time to time but always seems to center itself.
To say that the site has potential is insulting. A backhanded compliment? Do you mean to insult W1zzard.
Do you have a say in the policy decision making? Ownership? Have you made any improvements?
our staff is told to edit out the offending material
I think you are coming from a negative place by making such comments.
Speaking your mind or making a valid point can be done without demeaning/ marginalizing others in the process.

That is just because you are the Great Neutralizer, no matter how hairy the topic, one post from you and everyone's smiling again. Most of the time anyway

No worries about the bus... let me lift it off.. :)

When I said "I don't care" I was talking about whatever method is implemented. I don't care which method is implemented. I do have ideas for said methods, obviously. ;)

Can't something good (which I already called it in this thread or one of the others) still have potential? I believe my words were something along the lines of make something good great IIRC. :)

I do see where you are coming from. I don't have a say in policy or decision making/ownership, etc. Neither does anyone here in the thread with a user color the same as mine. As far as making improvements here....many posts (not all, lol, not all) are helpful to the readers. I try to put my (more than!) .02 in when threads like these ASKING for help pop up (and let's be frank, I am sure I mentioned it in other places).

As far as the 'our staff' comments. I was talking about the site where I am a moderator, reviewer, editor, and soon to be (part)owner, Overclockers.com and shared my experiences and how we handle things, successfully, there. Yes, we do not have as much activity, but we still have the same type of asshatery going on there. It is simply not tolerated as much as it is here.

Hopefully that clarifies things since you went right at me.

As an Owner do you want people who make unethical comments like:

I'd simply create another account since their ability to keep dupe accounts managed is quite questionable (cough sew33/litwicki24 and his dozen others I found here).

It appears that you think you are immune.
Are you bashing here so you can be more successful there?
Get everyone to run to one side of the ship?
Where do you get your professionalism from?

Unethical it is not - its called being the devil's advocate, and I employ that method myself as well, it can work miracles in conveying a point people don't want to see.

Its weird, its like you glossed over most of my post fitzy, LOL!

Really, I could care less if people made those comments. As a moderator+, I(we) already know it happens. Truthfully, if I was banned here, that would likely be it for me....line up people, surely I will slip up!!
Or, if I wanted back in, I'd simply create another account...

I don't think I am immune? There are things that need improved here, and even more so at OCF!!! I just know we do not have these behavioral issues per capita.

Running to one side of the ship?? Not sure what you even mean by that.. get people to come to OCF? LOL, man, no... people will do what they do.

Anyway, not entirely sure how trying to skewer me in public is really helping anything here at TPU but further demonstrates the toxicity level (Also, you mention there is ways to do so without being demeaning, but here you are, being demeaning - a piece of irony not lost on me, nor anyone reading it)... but keep on keeping on if you insist. :)

EDIT: Listen man, I know I am not an angel here, there or, anywhere. I'm me. I'm not above anything. I literally have 5 infractions in ~9 years here (3 in 2010). Maybe I should have been banned? But is that my issue, or the staff for not acting (a bit of both, lol)? Let's be honest with ourselves.

EDIt2: But again, this isn't about you and I... you want to pound on me more, feel free, you know how to PM I'd imagine... outside of that, I will not reply to anything like this. ;)
