Total War: Warhammer III is the latest entry in the epic "Total War" series of strategy games. In our performance review, we're taking a closer look at image quality, differences between the setting presets, VRAM usage, and performance on a selection of modern graphics cards.

This game dose not like AMD GPUs. A 6600 XT is roughly equal to a 1080 Ti in most modern titles. Except this one. Here AMD hardware has issues.
On Reddit there's some conspiracy theories that the reason for the low FPS is the Denuvo
Well, if someone cracks this game and/or removes Denuvo we will know if that is right, until then enjoy your 30 fps experience :) Or use resolution scaling + sharpness from your GPU drivers.

PS: i guess a RTX 3060 Ti would match a RTX 3070 in this game, right ?

All hardware has issues witht he Total War engine. 3 Kingdoms and Troy are on a new engine but I guess they could not port it to Warhammer.

Yes. But as someone pointed out on Reddit. The first TW Warhammer was an AMD bundle, the second Warhammer was Nvidia, but this one seems to not like any of them.

I'm enjoying the game (loved 1 and 2) but have found it a little unstable - have had 3 crashes in 2 hours of play so far. I agree the framerate doesn't match up with the visual quality - something with the shadow settings is wrong too as I'm not noticing any performance difference between ultra and extreme shadows.

I'm also finding the occasional stutter in the game. Well I say stutter - it's more like a 0.5-1 second pause - framerate is fine but the game just completely stops for a moment before continuing. Very strange.

That is just whoever gives them the most money. TWWH 1 & 2 were both Games the required Multi GPU. It did not matter if it was AMD or Team Green SLI and crossfire were both the best enhancers of performance.

Jesus, terrible performance for an outdated looking game. Glad it's on gamepass to test out.

I noticed a bunch of crashes too, but mostly while or shortly after alt-tabbing. Same problem for you?

ISSUE 1: In rare cases, the game can become unstable and crash when ALT+Tabbing between active windows while running in full-screen mode.

✔ Solution: Set your game to run in windowed mode by enabling the ‘Run in Window’ option in the graphics settings panel, or avoid ALT+Tabbing while the game is open.
They know about it.

"These requirements are SUPER high, and totally unreasonable given the graphics offered."

So no new graphics engine. Same old DX11 tech with new content crammed in. Hardly a surprise it runs like a lemon.

You should be able to enable DX12 in the script.

No mine seemed to be if I was clicking the UI in main quest battles too quickly. Two of them were hitting the close button on a prompt from the advisor pretty much immediately. Third crash happened when I walked out the room to get a drink - came back to desktop :( All crashes were in battles though - none in the campaign view.

I've not dared alt-tab yet given how TWW2 would have serious issues with it in the early days of its release as well.

Ultra presets do make a lot of visual difference compare to High, though it's just too demanding for current gen GPU. These game companies are good at making people buy new GPU .

@W1zzard I see that you use a 5800X in your test system - would you still say that it's a faster gaming chip vs 5900X and 5950X? thanks
I’d probably say „same“ for gaming, which is supported by the data from my cpu reviews. Price matters, so why waste money

still, today..... there is no benchmark for rtx 3080 10gb with resolution of 3440x1440........

Were did the 3060Ti go in your recent performance benchmarks?

I kicked it out to keep the number of cards somewhat manageable. Additional problem with Warhammer 3 is that each GPU change consumes a Denuvo activation, of which you have 5 per 24 hour period. That's also why some other cards are missing.

Pretty disappointing performance. This doesn't look much better than the previous TW: Warhammer games, but it runs far worse for some reason. There's definitely something going on here under the hood. There should be no reason for this kind of bad performance if it uses the same engine as previous games.

Wondering, why RTX 3060 Titanium is not shown in charts?

That's just facing the campaign map or during battle with 2000 units total or two full stacks of 20000 units total or during end turn on turn 1 or 150 with dozens of armies and agents moving or what? This way it kinda says nothing
I run it in 4K on Ultra setting on a Intel i9 11900K <PCIe4.0> z590 ; RTX 3080 ; 32 GB RAM on a SSD and while in battle and during my turn it's solid 30+ FPS during the end turn (turn 100+) it drops as low as 8 FPS. As a tradeoff for very fast endturns it's preferable to skip rendering frames though. Endturns became very long in previous entries, much better now.

See the post two above yours

Custom battle with all unit slots occupied, with a healthy mix of unit types, large armies turned off. No doubt you can construct scenarios where the game runs even worse, like siege, etc

I get very similar frames on the campaign map and in battles - 33 odd on the campaign view and maybe 29-33 in large battles (4k ultra with everything cranked up except shadows, which remain ultra and not extreme). Makes me think there are certainly areas for improvement as in TWWH 1 & 2 I'd get better frames on the campaign view as there's a lot less to render.

On previous games the framerate would absolutely tank when the AI was taking turns - before the massive performance patch in TWWH2 which made the turns a lot faster it was very severe into the 2-4ish FPS range, and even after the patch it was a big dip (down to like 16-20 FPS). I am actually very surprised at how fast the end turn is in this release (given poor performance elsewhere), and how little the frames drop during the AIs turn, although I'm used to the full mortal empires map so we'll see how it performs when they launch an ME map with the TWWH 3 factions and map as well.
