Nope, you're absolutely spot on. I gutted a dx2300 just last week and it had the same kind of speaker. It indeed is used as both a PC beep speaker and can also output sound.I have a similar speaker in a HP case and AFAIK it's a proprietary speaker which can also output normal sound like normal speakers. It's not your typical PC beep speaker.
Someone can correct me if I'm wrong here.
Also got the mainboard to go with it, a MSI MS-7336 946GZ OEM mainboard (which may also probably work with retail MSI BIOS, assuming I can find the closest retail equivalent to it.)
