Benching AGP cards currently with Phenom II X4 955BE. Thought that my AM2NF3-VSTA was broken but it's just picky about RAM.

I think it was a very good deal myself. :)I have been reading about the motherboard I have just bought Asus P5N-D it seems like a good board. :)
. Why has mine got two fans on it?do I need a fan on the case? And it can overclock o_ONot that I know how to do it o_OWhat GPU would be the best one to use with this board with a Q9400?o_O Or should I get two GPUs so I can use SLI? If so which ones? Or would it be better to just go with one? o_O

Pretty nice board there, Nforce chipsets ran pretty hot as that nF750i SLI there has a fan on the heatsink.

The conversion to water cooling dropped from 85C on a low profile copper Thermalright heatsink to 60C on the custom loop at 4.4GHz and 125W load. As usual, there is no replacement for excellent cooling. Now testing at 4.6GHz and it's purring like a kitten. Bios set the voltage to 1.30V on auto settings. I'm thinking 4.8GHz might just be easy.

I think it is with all the reviews on youtube. I thought that was the reason why that heat sink had a fan on it. After watching Dawid,s video on youtube about SLI I will give SLI a miss. I was thinking about the best GPU for that motherboard I am thinking of either the 660 or the 660ti, the thing about that is 660ti is three pounds cheaper at CEX. I thought the ti version is better than the non-ti version. What else would people recommend for a Q9400? I don't want to pay too much for one, the 6600ti in CEX is £35 the non-ti version is £38.? o_OWhat is your view on the PC BUILDS Bottleneck Calculator? o_OAnd what are people's views on bottlenecks? I understand anything under 5% is not a Bottleneck according to that site.

Yes it is. Doesn't particularly like 1066 ram. 800 is preferred. Likes my G.Skill HZ's.

Typical 800 Kingston ValueRAM 2x2GB sticks. Had to swap those around to get it working but now works fine with 800C5 in dual :D

Easier with a 2x1 kit.:)
Overclock higher too.

Nah, I run them at 800 anyway, and since I have a 955BE there, I just crank the multiplier up, not gonna do any FSB magic. :D

I had a good day at the market today I bought these three things. for £4 :)The motherboard is M7NCDU VER 8.2 I looked it up but can't see it anywhere, can anyone help?o_O The seller had a lot of Ram there but did not take my magnifying glass there.:( I dare say the seller will still have it on the next market there on Wednesday. Although I do have quite a few Ram sticks. The board looks in good nick but bearing in mind I have failed to get the two 775 motherboards to work :(It is a good market, and most of the sellers are reasonably priced. You never know what you will be getting there. Most of it is house clearances.

Adrian looks into the IBM 5150 PC and 2 clones...

It is Biostar M7NCD Ultra 8+ Windows 2000 that suits me :)If I can get it to work that s another thing. o_OIt is very limited with the CPU,s it supports
462 socket. If you want something done do it yourself, as I have found on here.o_O It supports up to XP 3200, I bet I don't have that one on my board.

I would like to bet, if you ask, here are many that will post some S462 CPUs for you to try your M7NCD , for free.
But yes, pop that heat sink and let us know what you have there.

Odd thing though, spec. announces 5 slot for DDR1, but has three only

It would be nice if I could get it to work.:) But if you have been following me talking about trying to get my two MSi 775 boards going, it is a long shot to get it working.o_OI was just reading the manual and saw that I don,t understand why it is in there, like you say there are only three slots.o_O

Better get it just for the motherboard. It's a very good one.
I have a later version of that board, so I gave it a miss,as it is not much different from mine. I would have liked the Sound card for £2, but he did not want to sell it on its own. :(

Some goodies I've been gifted today.

You're a lucky person been given all that for free. o_OI see you have been given two Biostar,s, I had never heard of the make before I found out mine was one.I just looked on eBay and saw this Biostar G31D-M7 Rev. 8.0, Intel E5400 2.70 GHz, 4GB DDR2 Motherboard Bundle for only £13.
That is very cheap “Used - TESTED & WORKING”o_OIt looks very clean, unlike the one I bought.

^^I gave up with VIA stuff during W7 times, no relevant support, all kind of hoops had to do make them drivers work etc.
But what you have there, are a couple of gems. The P5's I have no experience of, but the 960GX, and that WinFast.

I remember running Win7 SP1 on the K8VGA-M for some time, before I shelved it. Was compatible for the most part - I didn't run anything special on it per se, so no idea what areas of it would be unsupported.

The ones I find interesting enough are the P5LD2 which now sports a Pentium 4 631 and the P5K SE/EPU which for the time being, runs a E2140 until I can find a better chip. And the P5GC-MX/1333, which makes for a nice and compact Core 2 Duo system - that one does need a complete BIOS rewrite though, as I have to manually assign a MAC address to the LAN chip.

I also got a stash of hard drives from the same friend, as following:

- Seagate ST3250410AS - SATA II, 250GB
- WD2500JS-00NCB1 - Caviar SE - SATA II, 250GB
- WD1600JS-00MHB0 - Caviar SE - SATAII, 160GB
- WD1600JS-55MHB1 - Caviar SE - SATAII, 160GB
- Samsung SP1654N - Spinpoint - ATA133, 160GB
- WD10EZRX-00A8LB0 - Green - SATAIII, 1TB

Most report between 98 and 100% health. None are erased yet - I will have to go through them and check what's there to save (at least the Green 1TB has a whole stash of games it seems) first.

I do have two 74GB WD Raptor WD740 drives to use for RAID though.

What do you think of this?
bet no one has tried thiso_O And to keep it on the topic it is a Biostar :)

Ha! that motherboard looks like it could be in the "PC Building Simulator" game

I've spent the last two days tweaking these retro rigs.

The G3258 is running great at 4.8Ghz (50% overclock!) with one of the Titan Black cards in it. I changed out the slim Thermalright AXP90 Copper's fan to my 92x25mm thick Be Quiet and the temps are the same with much less noise. The Titan runs about 75C on the backside after a while, but seems fine. GPU runs up to about 80C. It got 116K in 3D Mark 2001, mostly keeping the FPS counter pegged out. Played some FEAR on it yesterday.

The 4790K machine is tweaked up as well. I managed 4.6GHz at 1.30V and 65C. 4.8GHz would boot but kept BSOD'ing, even at 1.45V. The GTX960's are running SLI nicely. If I wasn't such a speed junky, this rig would be great as a daily driver still. Tried to install Win10 on dual boot but it keeps crashing out. Exploring ways to convert the Win7 install from Legacy to UEFI without starting all over. Now I can play Dirt 2 again! The only bad part was that I finally discovered how to get it to run on Win10 today, completely negating this build. Ah well, having fun anyway! I may play with both Titans in this thing for fun and benching, but the dual 960s run so cool and quiet that it's pretty nice.

I think I'm going to sell off everything from my Z68 all the way to my Athlon XP hardware. WinXP on a G3258 is just silly fast and fun.

Not sure how I'll be able to restore the shell of the heatsink though..
