he have two model lol, got pm justnow, willing to trade and ineed pay for extra $40, its an asus matrix platium, so it is worth my redevil+$40?

try finding a GTX 1070. much better imo

the person dont have it, i would like to test 1070 too if someone want to trade for, 1070&1080 drastically price drop, i can wait bit longer before pay for it:p

The GTX 980 is going to be maybe 10% faster give or take.

Trade + 40$? Hmm that's close. Tell maybe trade plus 20$ see if they bite.

honestly a 580 would still last you for a year or so as long you don't go up on your resolution. a 980 is only a few % faster than the 580 in some cases but its much more futureproof compared to the 980 (specially with radeon image sharpening being available to the RX 480/580 as well.

my advice is if your are upgrading get at least a GTX 1070 haha

i dont plan for upgrade hehe, im still good with rx480/570/580:D, it just some oportuny that i can get gtx980, ive plenty of rx model, so im not gonna loss anything, i think i will push the deal for extra $20 indeed, thx for the tips guys:)

The 580 has native hevc accel and 10 bit support whereas the 980 doesn't.

The GTX 980 was barely 10% faster than the RX 480, the RX 580 pretty much closed that gap completely.
Performance wise the 980 and the RX580 are pretty much neck to neck on launch.

The 580 has native hevc accel and 10 bit support whereas the 980 doesn't.
On top of that, the 980 will be losing driver optimizations while RX580 is still supported.

Personally, I was reading the OP as GTX 980 + $40 for a RX 580.
But no I wouldn't trade an RX 580 for a GTX 980 at all, unless I am some kind of GPU collector.

While the performance difference its negligible, you have to remember 980 only have 4gb ram
whereas 580 have more memory to alleviate potential stuterring

I would definitely keep the money and keep the GPU. Maybe sell off the RX 580 if you want.
A GTX 980 is just not worth the hassel.

yes i think most of you were right, gtx980 unfornetly abadoned by nvidia, while amd still keep intact on old suport, i will think abt this again, anyway can anyone share info of pricetag? how much cost gtx980 atm, cheapest avaiable one, just curious the worldwide pricetag:)

Also your RX580 has 8GB vram while the GTX980 only has 4GB.

yes I agree 8gb is better than 4gb in this day of age, the 980 is still a good card if you havnt anything else but the 580 is still moving forward just in my view.

same performance,980 has more oc headroom and it's more power efficient.your call.

okey i get it, thx for input guys, i will thinking abt it :D

I bought a used 980 classified last winter for cheap. It replaced my gtx580 matrix platinum lol.. it’s still a good card. Rips up 1080p no problem. So does my 970.

Don't buy a card that is 5 god damn years old. Also the 580 is that one that's faster.

be sure to relay this message to the buyer when you'll be sellig your card.
sure will do, ive been pay for many used card, iknow how the feel get scam, so i wont do the samething to the others and lady fortune will stick with me, anyway i think i will just pass this trade, bcouse i only have x1 red devil, i will conaider to trading again after get golden sampling:)

Lol Golden sampling! I'd say if it where a 980 TI version, it would make it harder to decide. I thought you where already set in the trade and just wondering about the 40$ with the trade.

Technically speaking, You'd be trading a low/mid ranged card that's newer for a top old timer card.
Difficult decision, because there's ups and downs to this. Neither card are really expensive on a loss now a days, but remember the 980 was a 500$ card and for it's time would be like buying a 2080 today.
So the RX 580 will have even less value than the 980(2080) 5 years down the line. Something to think about.... 5 year old card, still worth 150 bucks, plays all games at max texture detail, 1080P no porblem.
Also one of the good things about the NVidia cards, is that if you have/play games that utilize hw Physx, you may have some fun with that.

Other than the above, there's really no reason for the trade unless you just wanted to IMO.

Wouldn't trade, the 4GB VRAM will become a bottleneck with newer games. As a former owner of GTX 980 that was a pain in the ass when the card performed fine otherwise. Same thing with my current R9 290.

Which newer games? Call of Duty plays wonderfully. Max texture detail, average frame rates 1080P well above 60 fps...

Your R9 290 would get you some better FPS if you upgraded just to a Ryzen 1400 from that Phenom 940BE. You should be able to game just fine (If not already just lower fps's)

Perhaps this the most bizarre idea posted in this thread. Who cares how many extra pennies you would have been able to get when you're going to sell it. The 980 would have been by far the worst investment between the two, all high end cards are bad investments because they lose their value the most compared to their launch price. While most will try to artificially inflate the resale price of a high end card it wont work, people aren't stupid they'll always go for the less expensive modern equivalent.

Also one of the good things about the NVidia cards, is that if you have/play games that utilize hw Physx, you may have some fun with that.

We both know this feature is absolutely worthless. Not only that but Physx is no longer restricted to Nvidia, you can run the few games that exist with this feature on even if you have an AMD card.

I kinda get a "I own this thing therefore it's the best" vibe from your comments. Both cards are in the same tier, one old and one newer with more VRAM, no rational reasons whatsoever to switch. Actually, you would be at a loss if you did.
