Ok yall, i think i have changed My Mind, the 8500 Wolfdale C2D Caught my eye and the performance is equal to that of the C2EQ6850 but for 700 dollars less (900 vs 200)

My Problem is now, Choosing a Motherboard to go with it, Asus and Gigabyte have too many Damn SKUs, but Chipsets of Choice are P35 or X38- Which Abit has both but DFI has P35- MSI i never hear about on overclocking. I intend on eventually dropping in 2 video cards for Crossfire, and also dropping in a Drive Controller for Combo Mirroring and Stripping RAID (I assume 0,1,0+1,5). Ram is a Tough Choice but if possible PC 12000 DDR2 is nice touch, now the other problem is some boards are coming with 1600 FSB support (yes overclock) do yall think some of the P35s will also support it after a Bios Upgrade as i seen 1 Asus P35 that supports it (P5K/EPU)? Other question, is there Really a difference between 8+8 and 16+16 as of SLI/Crossfire in Frames Per Second/Detail Levels (Res/AA/AF). Videocard i intend on using will be 3870 (Vanilla- if possible)
I also need room for a Sound card or 2 (for Older stuff)

haahaaa I just read 2 pages of you being adament about getting an AMD chip and all of a sudden you change your mind...

At least you made a good decision eidairaman.. :)

Amd as much as I love em just cannot compete with intel atm... not in speed or overclocking... :(

your logic is a bit weird.. however u clock your amd system it wont go as well as a current intel system..

there is nothing special about the 790x chipset either.. i recently swopped an abit an52 entry level board for an msi 790x board.. it didnt go as well as the entry level abit board..

looks good on paper.. the reality was a little different thow.. i had to lower the clocks on my 6000+ from 3.35 gig to 3.30 and even at the same clocks the entry level abit board out performed the latest amd chipset board.. litterally all my benches dropped off noticably..

i sold the 790x board on ebay and went back to the abit board..

then jumped to intel.. amd is okay but trying to make a donkey run as fast as a race horse dont make a lot of sense any more..

if u already own the donkey fair enough.. but planning on buying another one just dont add up.. :)

trog

put the donkey in an exoskelton and he will :D

or clock an X2 to 5ghz on N20

well for 700 Dollars less you can get the 8500 vs the QX6850, I think ill build the 8500 now and later down the line build an AMD, the current machine i have will become a side project for overclocking.

unless u are into suicide bench runs there isnt anything to be gained from the e8500.. a fair price leap thow..

mine is running at 4 gig cos its a nice sweet cruising speed.. i would run the 8500 at exactly the same speed.. these chips are governed by the voltage u dare put thru em.. not simply how hot they get..

at excessive voltage the 8500 is good for an extra 100mhz at most.. i am talking 1.7 minimum vcore here at 4.7 gig.. to get that smidge extra..

Ok yall, i think i have changed My Mind,
I'm so glad that you are open-minded. Really there is no point and no reason to buy a Phenom.
the 8500 Wolfdale C2D Caught my eye and the performance is equal to that of the C2EQ6850 but for 700 dollars less (900 vs 200)
While there is no quad-threaded optimized software, the E8500 will perform faster then the QX6850(although I'll only consider Q6600 or Q6700).

My Problem is now, Choosing a Motherboard to go with it, Asus and Gigabyte have too many Damn SKUs, but Chipsets of Choice are P35 or X38- Which Abit has both but DFI has P35- MSI i never hear about on overclocking.
If you plan to upgrade your CPU with a quadcore, then look after X38 based mainboard. If you plan to stay with the dualcore, then P35 would be enough. If you are going to buy Gigabyte, get a DS4 or DQ6. They have excellent cooling and high quality solid capacitors. The DQ6 has better voltage regulation and better cooling. It should OC better, but I'll consider it only for hard-core quad-core OC-ing.
If you are going to buy Asus, don't get the P5K(P35 Vanilla), it has very poor cooling. The P5E (X38) has much better cooling.

I also need room for a Sound card or 2 (for Older stuff)
DDR2 PC12000, there is no such a thing (1500MHz DDR2) and nobody has ever reached such high frequency with DDR2. For decent OC-ing, you'll need a DDR2 @1GHz, PC8000 or PC8500. Although there are P35/X38 boards not natively supporting FSB1600, I'm pretty sure all P35/X38 boards will run stable @FSB 1600. About the crossfire, find a board with PCI-e x16 slots, there is a difference in performance, especially if you are going to use fast cards like the 3870X2.
