Undervolt for i5 9300h with GTX 1650 mobile

Hello,



My laptop specs are i5 9300h and GTX 1650 mobile. The other day, I sent my laptop to the manufacturer to refresh the thermal paste for CPU and GPUs. But still no performance improvement. I've undervolted but I'm getting Thermal Throttling and PL1, EDP other errors. When I start testing, Thermal and EDP other turns constantly change colour to red and yellow. When the Core Power Limit decreases over time, I get the PL1 red error.

Can anyone or especially unclewebb (if available of course) help me with this? Should I resend it to the manufacturer? (Considering after the test I'm pretty sure they did a sloppy job using cheap products for thermal paste, what should I do?)

From the image of the throttlestop main window where there was 100% load on the CPU I don't believe it is necessary to change the thermal paste again.
This is because the temperature difference between the cores, with all equally charged (100%) is only 7ºC.
This indicates a good application...
It may be that using another thermal paste of better quality will achieve better results (or not), but the application was well done.

These 9th generation Intel CPUs are limited by cache undervolt.
If your CPU is completely stable with both at -120mV, you can lower the core further which will make your i5 reach higher clocks or, limited to 3.5GHz as in the image, it will have lower temperatures because at the same clock I will consume less Watts.

I suggest put -200mV for core and repeat the same test (full load multicore).
Then you can go down from -10mV to -10mV and check.
It will reach a point where it will no longer benefit you.
There you will have found the sweet spot.

If I put -200mV for CPU Core and run the same test, I still get the Thermal, PL1, and EDP errors. But if I did -240 or -230mV none of the issue occur during the test. However, If I play some heavy games after a while(10 minutes) I get EDP errors for Core, GPU, and Ring. Even if I close the game, errors stil pops red and yellow constantly until I shutdown ThrottleStop. And at Max, temp difference between cores is nearly 13ºC

What laptop model do you have? It looks like your laptop uses an embedded controller (EC) which can randomly lower the turbo power and current limits. This causes power limit throttling which is indicated by PL1 lighting up red in Limit Reasons or EDP throttling. The CORE column of Limit Reasons is the important one. There is no easy solution for throttling that is being caused by the EC.

If you think they did a sloppy job applying the thermal paste then I would suggest learning how to do this basic maintenance job yourself. If you send your laptop out again, it might come back worse.

ThrottleStop is setup correctly so there is nothing further you can do about EDP throttling. The EC can lower a current or power limit at any time. Your laptop was designed to throttle. It is living up to those expectations. It is hard finding well designed laptops without any throttling issues.

Even if you find a way to improve cooling, you still might have power limit throttling issues down to 35W or less.

I would suggest checking the Speed Shift box in the TPL window. This will enable Speed Shift Technology which is what most modern laptops use to control the CPU speed.

I have a Casper Excalibur G770 Model using a Clevo chassis. I have been using this laptop for more than 2 years but this overheating problem is more obvious than ever. For example, in January I used to play Elden Ring for hours at a maximum temperature of 89ºC. But now after 10 minutes the core temperature jumps to 95ºC. So, are you saying that the problem cannot be solved because of EC issues? I checked the speed shift box, but the default is between 1 and 255. What do you suggest? Some friends of mine suggested that it might be useful to lower the turbo ratio limit from 41, 41, 40, 40 to 41, 38, 38, 38.

Your laptop has thermal throttling consuming about 40W in CPU loads alone.
When you go down core voltage to -230mV with cache at -120mV (?) and didn't thermal throttle, it's because your CPU was able to run the test without reaching the PROCHOT value (96ºC).
So either the i5 ran the test at its maximum all core clock (4.0GHz) or it was limited by the power limit (you locked the cap at 60W but some laptops ignore this).

If during games the Limit Reasons alerts are turn on, it is because the CPU + GPU cross load is too high for your system.

Probably during the games you will not receive these alerts if you lower the power limit to 35W or limit the clocks of 3/4 cores to 3.5GHz.

I did both of option

You need to understand what these alerts are about.
When PL1 and PL2 are displayed it just means that the established power limit has been reached.
If you set PL1 and PL2 to 35W this box will be shown as this limit will be reached whenever there is demand.

When the thermal box is shown, its limit temperature has been reached.

EDP other in ring means that the current limit has been reached.
As you have already increased the ICCMax in the core and cache to the maximum and defined the Power Limit 4 to 0 there is nothing to be done.
