Uninstalling gpu drivers

Hey guys I plan on getting the new RTX 3070 and I was reading and a lot of people are saying to uninstall your drivers especially since I have a 5700 XT to use DDU and I really don’t feel comfortable doing that so we’re going through windows device manager be fine
 
Use DDU it is fine, plus if going from AMD to Nvidia you want to make sure it is all cleaned
 
Yea I’m just kinda nervous about stuff like safe mode and stuff I don’t wanna mess anything up
 
Going through Device Manager alone won't make it a clean uninstall. Boot into safemode and run it, and instead of rebooting you choose it to shut down so you can install your new GPU and install the AMD Nvidia drivers. (derped)
 
You know that one option that says something like uninstall and shutdown would I put in my new gpu before rebooting my pc
 
Ok and it should completely wipe everything with the gpu drivers because I don’t want my cpu drivers to get touched

It won't touch your CPU drivers. Just the GPU drivers. I've used it before on my Zbook as I changed from AMD back to NVidia again, and it was fine! Still running just fine with the Nvidia card, and nothing is damaged in Windows. ;)
 
Ok did is safe and shouldn’t mess up my windows or anything right because some people say that it’s Fs up your pc

It shouldn't. Didn't mess anything up for me on any of my laptops here. Usually those who say that didn't use it properly.

How to Use DDU (Display Driver Uninstaller) to Uninstall, Remove or Delete Graphics Card Drivers
This is a good tutorial, as he's demonstrating he wants to go from RX 570 to a 1060. Similar situation for you.

https://www.wagnardsoft.com/content/ddu-guide-tutorial Read through this. And it'll probably be best if you download (but not install) the Nvidia driver first before doing this. As this involves disconnecting from your Internet (you can just disable Ethernet/Wireless) as Windows will install its own driver.

Before you do all this, which is what I really do before doing anything like this, make a backup of your main drive. Macrium Reflect Free Edition is of course free and you can make a backup of your main SSD, and store it on your 2TB drive incase you need to roll back if things go lop-sided.
 
should I check the one box that says delete amd files because I won’t need them anymore

hey, guys well now that I see rdna 2 performance I might stick to and but if I do would I still have to use DDU since it's the same brand? also does anyone know AMD will improve their streaming encoder

You should be fine using AMD's uninstaller, and reinstalling the drivers. Only suggesting it as a precaution although you might be able to get away with leaving the drivers in place, and let Windows detect the graphics card swap.
