my Palit 8500GT works fine in 2yrs, after that suddenly it wont allow me to boot to my OS(hang during loading). I reformat it and everything is ok but when i tried to install directX it will hang again.
My 8500GT only works when i didn't install directX. I don't know what really causing it and no program can detect the video card.

i tested with other video card, all works fine except this 8500GT won't work with DirectX. Anyone knows how to fix this??

Here is the pic.

What happened when you attempted to install the driver?

That is the first time I have ever seen anything like this. What motherboard are you using? Does it have on-board video?

Please fill out "Edit System Specs" in the User CP so we can help you better.

programs wont be able to detect the video card until after the drivers are installed.

you need to focus on getting the drivers installed first, could be something like needing dotnet installed, or the latest service pack

That looks like windows 7, are you installing the latest Nvidia driver, or one from an old CD/DVD or something? you mentioned you've used this setup for 2 years, but 7 hasnt been around that long

i used windows 7 theme(but my OS is windows XP SP3).

My PC Spec:

Intel Core 2 Duo E6600 (2.4GHZ) 65nm
MSI P965 Neo-F V2
2x 1GB DDR2 667 Frequency
Palit 8500GT

Everything works fine, i used my borrowed 9500GT and works fine too it can install directX but for my 8500GT won't work anymore.

i used other program like Virtual machine to integrate some program(like Media Classic Player) with directX and it work but if i tried to install the directX to my computer itself, it won't work.

I let one of the electronic expert to check if any of the circuits problem and after he gave it back to me, he said everything is fine, no circuits are broken.

physical inspection of a video card wont tell you much, its go so much inside it where you cant see damage.

To be honest, if system works fine with other video cards, i'd suspect the card.

Have you tried the 8500GT in another machine to see if the same problem occurs?

Testing I have done:

Software:
Install all other program works (including net framework and Visual C++).
All other essential for computer also works.
All mini-games and games that don't use directX works

Hardware:

Circuit Check
Cleaning
Chipset Check (if any were burned)
PIN check (DVI and VGA)

all were fine except directX install (any DirectX version).

which nvidia driver are you using?

i tried the old ones(180+) and the new one(195.62) it hang in the middle of installation.
this is my 1st time encounter something like this in my 8 years of fixing other peoples and my own computer.

the last test i can think of is flashing and replace the image of video card bios but one thing i am worrying about, it might cause the motherboard or other parts to malfunction if it failed to reset and change the image(hang during flashing) and i have to force reset the system again.

if u guys have some other idea or might fix the same problem as this in your experience, it will help me a lot.

as i said before, its more than likely the card is faulty.

Get a new graphics card.

Did you instal chipset drivers ? I researched and found some people had this problem before installing chipset drivers. What is your motherboard?

that cant be the problem, as he swapped it with a similar card and it worked.

UPDATED: AS OF FEB,3,2010

after i buy new card(9500GT), i still wondering why this card won't work and i never encounter this kind of problem in my 8 years of expertise in hardware and software. there's no damage in chips and others so i put into my final test.

i spent more than 40+hours editing bios and such, trying different method that i never tried before and today i just got it recovered from a impossible thing :cool:

i have 1 extra card now :D huff huff really tired after doing such long hours.......

SO what was the fix?

Yes I would like to know, as this sounds very much the same problem I am having with my 6200

if its working as a standard video adapter its broke.

No its not his GPU-Z proves that.. if it was STD VGA it would not show up in GPU-Z
