Unreal, Unreal 2 and Unreal Tournament 1999 are now officially freeware.

Epic has announced that Unreal, Unreal 2 and Unreal Tournament 1999 are now officially freeware and are hosted by OldUnreal.

It will link you to OldUnreal for said games which host installers for each game that download the ISO and install the patches all in one go :)

You could say this announcement is totally Unreal.

Had the CD version. IIRC Far Cry was the first DVD PC game I had.

Have all of these on CD-ROM, and just reinstalled them this week on a 24H2 build that I rolled back to W10 22H2. Unreal, Unreal Gold and Unreal Tournament got the HD texture updates, and they look nice with Dohnal's OpenGL renderer at 1440p.

UT was the first PC game I ever bought, and I still have the box for it. You can fit a 5- to 10-minute deathmatch in anytime.

Has Unreal Tournament not been free all this time? You can still play it with the old client. God bless the days of dedicated servers.

i enjoyed unreal 2 but it didnt get a good score... thus epic didnt released a third chapter

Hmm I looked around. It might have been UT04. Can't find any listings for 03 in DVD format. I had both, but 03 was so short lived.
I guess this depend of the region. I have some memories on many games being in CD AND DVD format about 20 years ago.

But I don't recall Europe having a Far Cry CD version, at least not here in Finland.

I have it on four CDs, in the U.S. I was late in getting around to accepting digital distribution, and didn't buy anything on Steam until 2009. I want to say that DVD media didn't start becoming commonplace here until about 2005-6 or so.

Great news, if I recall correctly this can also just be copied straight off a thumb drive to a pc and be run. It has made for a few good sessions at workplaces I've had, especially around Christmas when it's quiet af.

It can. That's how I've been doing it for years. Get the high res texture pack and set the resolution really high and its a great experience. Instagib Deck 16 is the GOAT.
