Microsoft Corp. confirmed today that it will unveil Windows 7, the next major version of Windows, at PDC and provide developers and attendees with a pre-beta build of the operating system. During the Professional Developers Conference 2008 (PDC), Steven Sinofsky, Senior Vice President, Windows and Windows Live Engineering Group, will keynote some of the Windows 7 features -including the kernel, networking, hardware and devices, and user-interface. Also, at this year's PDC, keynote attendees will be among the first to receive a pre-beta build copy of Windows 7. Additionally, attendees will have the opportunity to attend 21 different sessions that drill down into the details of developing for Windows 7. "Keynote attendees will be among the first to receive the pre-beta build of Windows 7," the company said.

Ideal case scenario: It bootes faster than XP, load app. faster than XP, has DX11, and has ONLY the good things in Vista....

Well, sorry about this, just woke up, and still dreaming....:pimp:

Interesting. Malware... anyone on the news team assigned to track Win 7? It would be nice to know that we could stay within TPU to learn more about it (as details become available).

No one is going to PDC if that's what you ask :), but as soon as there're any news around Windows 7 I hope they'll be reported in our site ASAP too.

There was some alleged Windows 7 screens recently that had a very distictive Vista look about em but ofcourse that can change very quickly sice its in beta.

Just found this. Lots of info and screenies.

I dont like the "IE7" version of explorer, but otherwise, looks OK.

well this is kinda stupid IMO.... they made vista fairly recently, and now they are making another O.S... lets just hope it is better then the others... and has the good things...

i hope it looks good as well !!

From what ive heard about it sounds very promising.

i'll give a try tomorrow... i have it

They are just getting back into their normal timeline. XP lived longer than any other Win OS to date. Most only lived for 2 or 3 years at most.

Hopefully Microsoft won't pull a Vista and release tons of bug along with the release.

Who knows PVT anythings possible with ms :/

What version is fits using for his ati+nvidia experiments?

From what I've heard/seen windows 7 will be a win.

I don't see much of an issue with the timing... how much time was there between windows 2000 and win xp? From what I remember at the time I stuck with windows 98 b/c 2k sounded like it wasn't too impressive and had some problems to it. Then xp came out and was supposed to be really good. Made that switch and was pretty happy for some time.

When I heard about windows 7 some time ago my first thought was hopefully it'll turn out to be that vista will be the new windows 2k, and windows 7, the new xp that takes what they learned from the previous flop to make an overall good OS. I'm still holding on to that one heh.

Well, if they keep the look of Vista but get rid of the much larger RAM requirements (I'm sure there's something they can do -- there's no reason why Vista should need twice as much RAM as XP), then it won't be so bad. I guess. Maybe. :P

You're forgetting about the Vista of that time, Windows ME. An OS so horrible that they developed XP out of Win 2000 and rushed it to market as quick as they could, if I'm not mistaken.

Somebody told me the other day MS has given up on IE, and Firefox will start shipping w/ windows. Don't know where they got this info, but does anybody else know anything along those lines?

Anyone know where to sign up for beta testing? I beta'd Vista and would like to try W7 out.
Crossing fingers this has high hopes.

Windows 7 pre-beta. I’ll be happy to start testing when they actually reach beta or RC stage.

I'm the same as octavean, especially when I get a decent computer and my dad's touchscreen monitor :D

I know that, sadly enough, it's a bunch of bloody garbage. :shadedshu
