Upgrade from 2080Ti

...after the 4080 purchase, i'm looking for a psu upgrade.
It's not necessary, I know. I just plan to move to ATX format(case sooner, mobo/cpu/ram later) in a year or so....so I have to start with the PSU.

I've been looking the MSI Ai1000P PCIE5 but I can't find it in UK.
Some others like Asus ROG seem to be ATX3 compatible.
Is it different from the ATX3 ready?

I mean they do have a 12vhpwr for the gpu. Do they need to have something more in order to be ATX3 ready?

A lot of that is just the BS 16pin to dual 8 pin which is fine but that's why they say ATX 3.0 ready.... Imo you should get a psu with a dedicated 16 pin plug.

Yes all the aforementioned PSUs have a 12vhpwr plug, so they are ATX3.0.

It's weird that companies like Corsair have delayed the release of ATX3.0 PSUs for so long. (i don't count the Corsair Shift as a normal psu)

Yeah you just have to verify in the pictures of the unit it actually has the 16 pin 12vhpwr plug and you're golden.

Although your unit is more than good enough and the corsair cable is more than adequate.

Yes the SF750 is capable of handling a 4080 and any cpu at the same time but I don't like the Corsairs decision to go for 2x8 pin for any 4000 card. I remind you the 4x8 pin to 1x16pin of the 4090s....
I just don't feel right seeing the SF750 powering this gpu with 2x8pin.

They do it by using thicker guage wire technically you can get a 3x or 4x 8 pin to 16 pin from cablemod but they will all perform the same as far as wattage goes 600w which is well beyond what your card or even a 4090 actually needs.

Honestly if it was available at the time I would have done a 2x8 to 16 vs the 4x8 to 16 custom cable that I have for my 4090 without worry.
 
Up to 300 W per 8 pin is fine, but the cables will get a little warm.

Remember you're also getting 75 W slot power from PCIE socket.

As far as I can tell 40 series cards pull almost no power from the pcie socket I was actually kinda surprised. The 4070s with a single 8 pin will be interesting to see if they pull more or not.

Maybe that's just a 16 pin thing.

Buy a cheap second hand gpu and wait for a better price :laugh:
 
-At first I upgraded my 2080Ti to 4080. The P200A couldn't take the Palit for 6mm, so I purchased the AP201.
-Then I purchased the Corsair 12VHPWR cable in order to be able to close the side panel of it.
-After that, the X570 Impact died without reason. The B550M TUF was purchased for replacement.
Warning: this stupid mobo's pci-e x16 for the GPUs is the SECOND slot further from the CPU. I didn't notice that before I buy it and that meant that the 4080 again marginally fits in the AP201, leaving no room for fans at the bottom.
-Because of my son (~2 years old), it was really difficult to make so many changes (and checks on the dead Impact and PSU) having the custom water cooling setup. That's why I moved to U12A.
-I may move to custom water cooling again in my next build that will be ATX (yes I'm done with the ITXs).

-It's slightly disappointing that the U12A cannot be rotated so the air direction face upwards.
-Having quite a few Noctua fans from the radiators, I put them on top of the case as exhaust. That's not ideal, since the U12A needs air to perform and everything else that takes a little of it, reduces the performance.
That's why I wanted the cooler to face upwards, so I could put the fan at the back as air inlet and the three ones at the top as the only exhaust.

-The case is full mesh, so every mistake or bad fan position has little impact.
