Currently have:
Asus Prime B760-Plus D4
Intel i5 12400F
Corsair 32GB 3200 DD4
2 Samsung M2's
MSI GTX 1600Ti 6GB

Compared to my old system AMD Ryzen 5600X and MSI X570-A PRO(AM4) this Intel just seems slow, its been a solid system so far but jyst doesnt handle like my old MSI AM4 setup, same DDR, Same Gpu, same M2's.

Im to the point of just getting a MSI/AsRock ATX AM4 B550 looks like $150 ish on Newegg, AMD Ryzen 7 5700X for $150. Thoughts?

these cpu performs very closely to each other... 5600x, 5700x and the 12400f...
i would not upgrade the cpu or go back to the am4 platform....
keep the intel platform spend the $300 on a new gpu instead... you will get a bigger boost

agree, complete BS. I owned both 5600X and 12400F (with DDR4-3733.17) - 12400F feels same or even snappier.

get like 12700K/13600K with DDR5 and then you can FEEL THE DIFF. Even 12400F with DDR5 will give you a diff (as they test), but, I'd in your place only upgrade the cpu with gpu. Like, even 12600K is day and night and 12600K is bargain these days.

@AleXXX666 which gpu would you pair with that amount of cash..
intel b580 comes into my mind... or a 3060ti or rx7600xt...

second hand might open up a few more "powerful" options like the 3070..

I wouldn't even if you are buying a new GPU.

I ditched my AM4 plattform with B550 / Ryzen 5800X early 2023. Now its end of 2024.

The RAM is old / cpu / mainboard is dated. I would sell it on the second hand market and get a new AM5 plattform.

You could get a new uefi update for your existing mainboard and get a 14th generation processor. I would not do that personally. Personally I see big risks in the long run with stable intel processors, intel claims for stability and cpu performance. May I ask you to inform yourself about that 13th and 14th intel generation processor topic. Intel has a lot of firmware / software and hardware issue with network cards, that includes wlan cards, processors, that includes mainboards.

-- Regardless if you use a graphic card or not. the existing platform is too slow.

Nah, stick with 1700. 12400F is fine, upgrade it to 13th or 14th gen instead.

On the budget side, do a 14400F 10c 16t. This is like 150 bucks, 10% faster per core ipc and 15 to 20% faster Multi-core.

Want better graphics settings and frame rates, keep the 12400F and look to upgrade the GPU.

My 2 cents :)

Make the jump and then go for a 7600XT at some point

Go for ARL for professional workloads.

Arrow Lake.

Don't buy a Radeon for work. Wait for RTX 50xx. iGPU till then.

What are you planning to cool the 14900kf with? If you don't want to manage that, I'd look at other platforms. If you can cool it (either with water, undervolting or power limiting, or both), it's a good cpu. If you don't want to deal with that power draw and heat, look at 285k or 9950x for professional workloads.

I havent started the rebuild yet. Also, can you not edit your own OP older threads?
