Why did you sell your 4770k? Why did you own a 4770k if you weren't overclocking, and why do you want a z97 and 4790k build now if you arent overclocking?
No you just don't need to pay the extra for a k (unlocked chip) if you aren't overclocking. the normal 4790 would be more what you are looking for.
in the past that might have been true, but there's a 400MHZ base clock difference between the non K and K versions of the 4790 (the S version is 800MHZ lower clocked). If you're overclocking you might as well spend the extra anyways to get the faster stock chip. The price difference is far less than the clock boost. 25$ (8% higher price) vs 400MHZ 11.1% higher clock speed. Granted the mobos are a bit cheaper as well but again not by much. So it's the same as if you weren't going to tune your car. If it's only a few bucks more would you go for the 350HP engine or the 400HP engine?
