upgrading a HP

ok i want to double check again if i can upgrade my psu and gpu. i want to get least a 600 watt psu and a GTX 960 here are some pics of my rig its a hp pre build so the only thing that i might have a problem with is the psu there is a small latch that helps hold in the current hp stock 460 watts psu and i am thinking it was only made for that psu heres some pics to see what yall think, thers no fan on top of the psu like most are and you can see the latch in the last two pics. but theres a half of inch of space on top but prob not enough room for the fan and good air flow from the psu.

You'll need to show the MB/CPU and power connectors from the PSU. HP and Dell are notoriuos for proprietary connector on eaxh . the PSU form factor and shape look like ATX, but you probably won't know till you stick a std ATX PSU in. Also... The board needs to support a PCIe graphics card for the 960

I might get yelled at for saying this lol but the hp psu may work fine if it has a 6pin and enough 12v amps..

i was going to ask that to it has a 6 pin and the GPU i want is the GTX 960 wich needs a 400 watts psu yes i got a 460 watts but it wont mean it will run it

Yep, just scanned quickly thru all the 960's on the Newegg website, and don't see the amp requirements on any of them.

That's the unknown. We have to know how many amps the 960 requires first as a starting point. Then, if it's an 8 pin model, you won't be able to anyway with 6 pin, because some of the models are indeed 8-pin from my quick scan. I think, though, if I had to guess, I would not want to chance that the one 6-pin is tied to at least two of those 12v rails, because you are likely to need the combined amps. Of course, you are ok, if you only need enough amps from one of them.

I'm going to go check some reviews.

I didn't see any amp requirements on any of W1zzard's reviews. I did see that some models like the ASUS Strix only require 6-pin.

Remember, as MANY have tried to explain in your various threads about this Pre-Built system, VERY hard to do off the shelf upgrades to !

So.. Does the PSU have a 6 pin? If yes, it will work with a 6 pin GTX 960 just fine (if they exist). They don't use a lot of power.

For cases, get something within your budget that you like. Not too tough with that one.

yes it does have a 6 pin but some say the max out put it only like 360 watts even though its a 460 watts psu

according to that review it only use 150 watts but will my psu run it.

"Power delivery requires a single 6-pin PCI-Express power connector. This configuration is specified for up to 150 W power draw"

That card should work , you have 1, 18A rail let's assume it's for a GPU :toast:

Worst case is you'd still need to build a new system :twitch:

, but you'd have a GPU to start with. :clap:

Remember what was brought up before, about the M/B may not fit aftermarket/tray/standoff's case
