just a random thought... if the ide drive is limiting your choice in motherboards, you could get one of these guys...

it has 2 sata ports and a single ata 133... so you could raid 1 with that and raid 5 with the ones on the mobo (new to raid so i'm guessing here)

If you go with that card, go with the drivers from Jmicron

Havent got a free PCI/PCIe port on the current board.

What you might want to consider to external storage. I run three of these:

Two USB models and one E SATA. All three have Western Digital 1TB Green drives. Low power, and you can just shut them off if no backups are scheduled.

Yeah was gonna do that, but now am too used to having a computer on 24x7 to do what I use it for.



And I don't really care about CPU usage, as long as it isnt constant CPU usage (i.e. if it goes to 80% when transferring files it doesn't bother me, as long as it idles at 0%).

I am just worried about it speed wise - large files take ages to transfer :p
