Two American universities have decided to try and attract more students by offering free iPhones and MacBooks. Oklahoma Christian University is offering all new students attending New Student Orientations a brand new MacBook, and current college students will be given the opportunity to trade in their current laptops to receive one. In addition to this, the University will also offer students an iPhone or iPod touch, depending on whether they're willing to pay the contract fees. Meanwhile Abilene Christian University in Texas is offering a similar deal to all freshmen, giving them the choice of an iPhone or iPod Touch. Dr Dwayne VanRheenen of ACU said:
Because 93 percent of ACU students bring their own computers with them to college, we are choosing to take them to the next level by providing converged mobile devices.

I hope all collages do this by the time I do to collage :D

yup they can keep the mac if they lower tuition

How about reduce the tuition fee.

True words!

Sure, Apple disguised as a college, I'll give you my IBM compatible laptop for you extra-cool MacBook!
Just give me a right-click button and we'll call it even! :p
I'm sure that students that fit in the "will procastinate" stereotype will receive a MacBook Air, the only laptop that can be used to do... nothing!

Yeah the last thing that I want is something made by apple. Cash in hand or reduction of tuition would be perfectly fine with me. Or I could just go to the state school like now! :toast:

they make good paper weights!

Wish I had this incentive when I first started college. :rockout:

I'd just take the mac and then start a Fireworks show in the gym.

Bah, I go to a university based on it's education. Not because they give me a damn computer.

but a mac isnt just a computer its a lifestyle ;)

The last thing taking over my life is a computer. What is this? The Matrix?

How about this: I live my own life, and not be fucked in the ass by Steve Jobs.

I think you're f***ing yourself in the ass by not accepting a computer given to you...Turn around and sell it on ebay at the least.

Damn Id so be on board for this, they didnt offer this when I went to college. DAMN I GOT SHAFTED!!! :roll

STILL, you should not decide where you are going to college based on whether or not you are given a computer or not. I think the college's that REQUIRE yet do not GIVE computers to incoming freshmen are the best ones. That way, I have an excuse to build a computer!

Why would someone base their decision to goto a college on a computer? They wouldn't, but if they did decide to goto that college they get a free product.

If I were in the position where someone was going to give me a free MacBook or iPhone I wouldn't complain. Guess mommy and daddy buy you plenty of stuff. :p Nah but seriously, I find no reason to complain about a free computer/smart phone.

True, but admission to those colleges I'm assumming are 30k+. I have a feeling none of those students are in need of a free computer, they probably get a new one each year from the parents anyways.

ACU is $25k+ but Oklahoma Christian is actually really cheap. $10k room and board. :twitch:

These are christian schools, a macbook wouldn't be the reason anyone goes to a christian school lol. Of course these schools are expensive, they are christian schools, which all tend to be quite expensive in the state on tennessee.
