I had this PC for 4-5 years, i5 6700k, gtx 1070, asus z170 motherboard. Yesterday the USB ports started to fail. The mouse and the keyboard do not want to work at the same time (when the mouse works the keyboard doesnt vice versa) so far i tried these methods

1. All USB ports 3.0 and the regular one front and back
2. Updating bios to 3805
3. Updated usb 3.0 roots to latest drivers
4. Removed usb 3.0 hubs roots
5.re installed windows
6. Updated windows
7. Disabled energi saving modes etc
8. Plugging out the usb 3.0 Cable from motherboard etc

Been looking Everywhere on the internet and i feel like i tried the most, glad for any advices (might be some swedish autocorrect)

bad usb probably is due to failing motherboard chipset, but that’s the worst case scenario, maybe you can try updating the chipset driver to the latest available by asus , if not , I would personally try a pcie to USB adapter as a last resort before replacing the motherboard

Could be chipset or cpu. Time to upgrade I say.

If you are overclocked, return to stock. Test cpu in another motherboard just to be sure.

I tried chipset etc. I bought a new motherboard for the lga 1511 Will build it together tonight, hopefully it is the motherboard failing and not the cpu but Thanks for the help!

Looking forward to an update, just out of curiosity ^^

Update!
New motherboard solved the issue, updated to msi z170 m7, not the easiest to find a old motherboard suitable for 6gen intel and socket but the computer is now running perfectly! Thanks a lot for the info and help u guys provided!

While the boards out, check for physical damage in the USB ports
