So i bit the bullet and bought the game... and unfortunately it simply crashes at the splash screen and i can never get anywhere. Anyone else run into this problem? It seems i'm not along when i google the problem.

Yea already spent my time there unfortunately, did the fixes to the ini file, the game is up to date, updated my openAL just in case, new cat drivers, etc etc

I just appear to be doomed until another patch comes to fix the problem. I was wondering if there was anyone else on the forums here that have hit the same road blocks.

Sorry to hear that.

Well, you paid good money for the game, so I believe Epic should be helping you to find a solution. :shadedshu

iv had this kind of probelm with crysis and UT3..i had to reapply the patch to crysis as for ut3 i didnt know anything about this ini fix all i did was clear the temp folder defrag diskclean up and reboot and it worked after my next reboot.

Have you updated the game yet?

Assuming you are running XP, how about good ol' DirectX? Also, make sure you have all of your .NET framework stuff updated through Windows Update. Good luck.:toast:

PS: I always listen.:)

I'm running windows vista, and as such am running the 3rd version of the .net framekwork. I'm almost tempted to try installing the omega drivers instead of the cats but i saw on the epicgames forums someone already tried that and failed.

UT.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close: A crash right at launch.
Status: OPEN (2 solutions available)
Solution: If using ATI hardware, ensure "Support DXT Texture Formats" in the Catalyst Control Centre is enabled (3D --> More Settings).
Solution: If using ATI hardware, in the utengine.ini set the following values:
Under [Engine.ISVHacks]
set: DisableATITextureFilterOptimizationChecks=False
set: bInitializeShadersOnDemand=True
set: PumpWindowMessagesWhenRenderThreadStalled=True
Under [SystemSettings]
set: OnlyStreamInTextures=True

That is the ini file soluation thats posted on the forum that doesn't work yet... along with just updating, uninstalling, and re-installing all sorts of crap :P

edit- yea i updated the game... that was my first hope and it let me down *tear*

Once again, someone has convinced me not to use Vista, again. :shadedshu I wish you Sir, the best of luck getting this solved. I of course, will be keeping an eye out for any fix.:toast:

Thanks buddy, on a side note though, this issue is happening to people with XP as well, although i have to admit i do feel a bit suspicious of it, maybe i'll try to install it on my computer upstairs thats running xp.

Woah. 666 posts. I doubt that number will help you get UT3 running.. mabye it will? :D have you looked in the device manager to make sure all your drivers are in order?

Everything is running great, no unkown devices, well my onboard wifi doesn't have a driver right now because i don't need to use it but besides that everything is magical. Unfortunately though, 666 posts wasn't enough to get UT3 running :(

I have this issue as well, but randomly, sometimes I also get the 'connecting' screen forever..

great game though. (Vista 64 and Modified ini)

Vista 64 and UT3

Well i have been running Vista since its release, no major issues. the only thing i have an issue with is UT3 (big surprise). I just upgraded to vista 64 with the new SP1 and Everything runs great.......except UT3.

With Vista 32 it would crash occasionally, but nothing to REALLY make me mad....Now i get this error:

/.../.../UT3.exe has stopped unexpectedly.

Reinstalling the application might solve this problem :banghead:

No spash screen, no delay, no nothing.....just the error

I researched the Engine.ini fixes, reinstlled, tried those, added the patch, same thing:mad:

so no you are not alone.....

As soon as i get this working im going to Kick epic in the N**s..... good thing i have WOW to feed my addiction

I had this problem too. Once I updated Windows Live, it was fine.

HHrmmm....Ill give that a shot and see if it works.....any other things i might try??
