Sappire Radeon X800 GTO with a flashed bois to unlock the 16 pipes went from stock 400 core 490 Memory to about 428 core 546 Memory for now, I don't push it much because of my stock cooling. Anyhoo I noticed my temp is about 42 c at normal(no gaming) and 60 c when overclocked(gaming), what is a safe temp so I wont fry my card??

Basically how do I monitor its stability?:p

It's fine. Not too hot but not the best either, it's about in the middle.

I have a similar card, an ATI Radeon X800 XL(R430) 400/490 stock and 439/538 overclocked with enhanced memory timings. I get about 32-35 idle and 47-52 load. But I have a Zalman VF700-Cu LED on mine. Those temps aren't bad, but if you have $40 left over, get an Arctic Cooling ATI Silencer 5 Rev. 2.

BTW, what do you get in 3DMark05 and 06?

No no, Zalman VF900cu, it far surpasses the silencer.

How do you get enhanced memory timings? Is it just trial and error or are there set values. Also, for the ATI Silencer 5 rev 2, how much better would arctic silver 5 be compared to the thermal pads they give?

Damn, 60C is low for a flashed/OC'd card with stock cooling. I was getting near 90C with that setup on mine (429/545). I added an ATI Silencer yesterday... I could push out 432/550? (Don't remember the mem settings... just the core) and now my load is under 55C.

The R430 Core doesn't have the OC capability that the R480 core has, but at least most can be unlocked.

The ATI Silencer makes a world of difference.

As far as temps are concerned, up to 75-80c is acceptable for the x800/x850 serice, if you havn't volt-modded the card. Start worrying if temps exceed 80c ;) Don't compare temperatures to the x1000 series cards, since they can withstand much higher temperatures.

Don't worry about holding back... just let atitool find the max stable speeds. Use ATITool 0.24 or any of the betas up to 0.25 beta 10. Note that artifact scanning doesn't work on 0.25 beta 14.

R430 core typically overclocks to 450mhz
R480 core typically overclocks to 580mhz

As far as aftermarket cooling goes, anything is good. I personally use the ATI Silencer 5 rev.2, but the zalman VF900cu is also a very popular cooler. Both will keep the core considerably cooler, hence letting you overclock further and extending the life of the card.

Unlocking the last quad of pipelines is sometimes possible. There is a thread dedicated to the unlocking of pipelines HERE

"Don't compare temperatures to the x1000 series cards, since they can withstand much higher temperatures."

that one is pure guesswork my friend.. he he he..

there is one reason and one reason only that intel cpus hit 90c and an 1900xtx hits 90c.. both parties in their search for power cant make the buggers run any cooler..

some passively cooled x800 cards run in the 90c region.. they dont fry..

mind u i fitted an artic silencer to my X850 card and i would cool my 1900 down a bit more if there was any practical way of doing so whilst still maintaining tolerable noise levels.... but there aint so i leave it at 88c or so..
