I started playing BF 1942 for nostalgia's sake and would like to play with my ancient Thrustmaster joystick. No idea what the model number is but its from the mid 90s, all grey, a trigger button and a top button, with a throttle dial and two calibration dials. Its very simplistic and very solid.

whats the best way to get this thing working well on a modern windows 7 computer? Will a USB to gameport adapter cause less sensitivity? If I use a soundcard, will this mess up my onboard soundcard settings?

I dont thing either option will hamper performance. Only issue is trying to find proper drivers

If he has drivers for the gameport, gameport joysticks are driverless IIRC.

I remember my sidewinder requiring them either midi/gameport or usb

Last time I used it was on windows XP off of my Audigy 2 ZS, it worked fine using the window's generic gamepad drivers iirc. I'll dig it out and find the model #.

So its a Logitech Wingman 3001. I'll research the usb adapters.

Does anyone have experience with the Rockfire RM-203?

Just as an aside, BF1942 is Free on Origin. It was a huge throwback playing it. If people thought grenade spam is bad in BF3/BF4....grenades are mini-nukes in 1942.

Yes I have been playing on Origin as well. Its way more fun than any other Battlefield game.

edit: looks like it wont work because my joystick is analog I think. I'd need a soundcard. I have a few but do not have an available pci slot.

Anyone know if pci-e soundcards with gameport exist in a reasonable price range? Haven't seen any.

I think this is true, but only if you play one of the total conversion mods. Eve of Destruction is still one of the best total conversions,ever. Though I do like BF2 more than 1942, including the BF2 EoD.
