I've had SP1 on Vista x64 Ultimate for a while now, had no problems I haven't directly caused myself. Never had a problem with it before, but thought what the hell it is supposed to be an update.

Windows Vista Service Pack 1 really did the trick for me. Absolutely no issues.

I suggest that you use the "VSP1CLN" (type this in start search) to cleanup after SP1. It's can get rid up to 700MB of SP1 post install crap. See here for details:

I was one of the ones that had it updated automatically before it was released (can't remember what the reason was) and haven't had any issues whatsoever.

Sp1 has been working great for me now. I guess it was just bad catalyst drivers or something? Cause when it first came out I remember alot of people complaining about it.

If you want run this:

There are no manual steps involved. Just open your Windows command prompt and type
vsp1cln.exe (short for Vista SP1 Cleaner). It takes less than a minute to execute.

*vsp1cln.exe is added to your Windows Vista System folder after you install Vista SP1.

I actually like Vista more than XP.. Seems faster and has alot more cool features. I really like Hellgate and Crysis DX10!

Not sure if you are aware but you can make Vista bootup with all cores, can speed up boot process. Just go to Search, type run(hit enter), In the Open field type msconfig(hit enter), Click on the Boot tab, click on Advanced Options, check number of processors, and now you can change the amound of cores Vista will use at bootup. Restart once done.
