I have a motherboard without any VRM cooling, will it have any effects on temps and oc stability if I put a fan directly over it without a heatsink ?

It should help, but the only way to truly know is to try it out and see. Let us know!

In general, a good airflow over any chip is better than a passive heatsink, so yes.

Thanks

Could you tell me which is the VRM temp ?

Any temp readings? Use HWiNFO64, if actually the board reports it.
This is a 4 phase board for CPU core voltage plus 2 phases for SOC voltage, each capable of 46A.

Benchmark Scores Faster than yours... I'd bet on it. :)
I'd guess that board doesnt read vrm temps...check the bios. If it isn't reported there, chances are it won't be anywhere else.

That said, what you are describing (fans on the vrm) was commonplace for amd fx octo owners who bought boards like this (weak vrms no heatsinks). So, yeah, give it a whirl.

Are you throttling or something?

No, but I don't wanna toast my board.

So....if it isn't throttling, there isn't really an issue. Cooler is always better, but I wouldn't go on thinking if you don't it will toast your board. :)

But yeah, very common to do this... get some air on it. Can't hurt! :p
Guess so...

1. B Series MoBo shouldn't be generating all that much heat.

2. Unless overclocking, not really needed unless you have poor case design

3. Asus has a great monitoring utility but I don't know if it's included on budget level MoBos.

4. The screenie doesn't say much ... is that idle ? stress test ? To be worthwhile download RoG Real Bench. Run the benchmark and watch the temps

5. I use monoblocks in custom loops when I am concerned about MoBo temps. But in small cases, the most common "fix" I have used is the spot cool. Usully cost about $15 ... must be out of production ... Amazon had it for $95

I am overclocking, I have a poor case desing, but no side panel and I stuck a ryzen stock cooler over the VRM

It seems that temp3/4/5/6 is the same and 99% its not VRM temp.
No other temp report on HWiNFO other than those 6? In another section?

Give us the whole pic... :D

Anyhow... the 2700(nonX) is a sub-100A CPU and could be around 80 or less probably. That would request less than 20A from each phase (46A). Probably this is above peak efficiency but I really cant tell if it is bad and by how much.

I'm guessing that you'll have to go higher-end on the PWM controller (hence, the board) to get more advanced VRM monitoring that's transparent to the OS. You'll probably be fine. If you're overclocking the 2700, just put a small diameter fan over the Vcore area, or maybe look into getting those little copper stick-on heatsinks for each MOSFET. With the cost of the board in mind, modding the VRM with those methods, a la AM3+, probably isn't worth it.

But the average 2700 really doesn't overclock that great anyways. They aren't binned that well, and pouring more Vcore isn't usually going to overcome that. Without overclocking, there is zero concern; the 2700 is an efficient chip and clocks pretty conservatively to meet its intended power envelope, as opposed to the 2700X.

1. This depends on the cpu used and load on the cpu. You put in a potato and dont push it, it wont. An overclocked 2700x running all c/t it can.
2. This depends... but generally yes. I point back to amd fx octos and most motherboards of the day. I'd be willing to bet money 50% of them throttled when a fully loaded fx octo was running all c/t. B450 is budget level as are TUF series boards.
3. Yup... but check the bios..if it isnt reported there, chances are nothing will.
5. Love the spot cooling though!

sorry, what?! You mean just the fan, right??? That is all you need. Pics plz....

Ok... so just the fan.. whew! When running under load for a bit, that configuration will blow warmed air over those vrms... but it should be better? Not sure. Tough to say without a temp reading for the vrm...

I'd honestly just leave it alone unless you see throttling or other issues while under load.

How about I put it so that it pulls air from the VRM ?

I have a motherboard without any VRM cooling, will it have any effects on temps and oc stability if I put a fan directly over it without a heat sink ?
Can I add my 2 cents?
I would take off the I/O shield. They put that so close to the I/O shield that there is no airflow when you have that I/O shield on.
I have not used an I/O plate in like 12 years because I found that without it the airflow is much greater over that very area and it keeps much cooler without the need of an extra fan the CPU fan will then bring the airflow over and around that area.
Try it out you have nothing to loose and well lower temps is the gain.
Good luck.
