Use the crysis engine to make your game:)

I would give it a week or two to get used to how to make maps.

The Best and most simple way to make your own game quickly and publish it legally would be to use FPS Creator 9 or 10. 10 is made for Vista only on DX10 GPU's and uses DX10 while 9 will work on any OS with DX9.

I have it and its fun and easy to use, I have already made my own Multiplayer Game and Single Player FPS.

Hey azazel, if you want to make games, join OBSCURE :) I run it, so yeah... PM me if interested.

Blender is a full 3D development suite that includes a game engine built into it.
It's open source so it's completely free.
