I wanted to ask this on the comodo forum but it seems they do not support Comodo Firewall anymore.
I found that I have a small piece of comodo gadget RIGHT UNDER in my desktop, see the picture below, I found the same on my moms laptop also running Windows 8.1.
I can move it around but not remove it.

Anyone else noticed this?

Yes, the gadget is part of the install. It's meant to give you access quickly to some of the firewall controls.

Overall, my experience with Comodo firewall wasn't great. It was rather confusing for me and to get settings the way I wanted.

I have the gadget in the top right of my screen, but you will see a small piece of the gadget right under , near the recycle bin.
Cannot remove it, only move it around.

Ohhhh, yes I see that now. Not a clue! LOL, I never had that. Try uninstalling and reinstalling? Although, since it shows on your Mom's as well, it's not likely to fix it.

Even though they aren't supporting it anymore, there is nothing in the forum from past and users that may have encountered it?

No did not find anything about it, thats why I'm posting here, we also never had that before!

The only thing I can think of is related to the OS. Were you running it on W7 before? If so, what comes to mind is W7 supports gadgets through the sidebar function, while W8.1 has no gadget support.

I'm running Comodo Firewall on several laptops and OS's and they all have this gadget, WIndows 8.1, 7, XP.
Now I have installed the 8gadget pack to show other gadgets, but my mom does not have this but it still shows the comodo gadget.

I see that the gadget shows up. But if you only get the pieces of the gadget like your picture on the 8.1 computers, then that is because 8.1 doesn't support proper gadget function. It doesn't mean it won't install, but could have weird results, like your case. Just my guess though.

The weird thing is, I never had this before and it also works fine on XP!
And there has not been any new update lately, and probably never again, since it's no longer supported.

What firewall are you using? Is M$ firewall on windows 8.1 any good?
Maybe I can just use that then?

Comodo is useless.

I never had any problems with comodo, had it for years on all my laptops.
What free firewall would you recommend then?
How good is M$ firewall in windows 8.1?

I am using Online Armor, by Emsisoft on all my computers now, because I have used it for years on several of our PC's. I had used Zone Alarm Pro on my main rig until the other day, but discovered that it will not allow the Diskeeper Service to run on the latest Diskeeeper. According to Diskeeper spokesperson on their forums, ZA has refused all requests to work with them to resolve the problem. So on my uninstall exit questionnaire, I told them why. Then they asked "How can we get you back?" I told them to stop acting high and mighty and work with Condusiv (makers of Diskeeper), and I would be happy to. Untill then Online Armor is my number one choice.

I have the same issue, upon moving it the little box stopped responding. I opened the task manager and noticed Comodo Messenger stopped responding, killed the process and the little image went away. Kind of strange.

Welcome to TPU!

firewalls are quiet useless when it comes to protecting you from crap you inadvertently allowed to be downloaded/installed
alas the "internet security Industry" would have you believe that not using there "product" will drown kittens and make your computer to implode
I tell people this all the time "if you need to use internet security software you are a idiot"
because unless you surf shady corners of the internet download crap without checking first or install random garbage browser plugin X MSSE and windows firewall are more then adequate

This thread is not about "if I need a firewall or not"
Problem solved, thread can be locked.
