Agreed. Instead of just trying to name faults with Vista, why not install linux and tell people why it is better. What a childish rant..........

LOL, I agree (to an extent, & w/ exception)...

HOWEVER? I think there is "method in Ket's madness"...

:)

* I'd wager he's a "squeaky wheel gets the grease" type of persona, & by yelling/kicking via cutting it down?

WELL, he knows he'll attract attention from those who have already hit the roadblocks inherent/present by default in VISTA, & they'll help him around them!

APK

P.S.=> Lots of folks use that approach, & if it didn't work for they? They would not try it & keep on utilizing it... apk

Uknow, its amazing how people are the first to jump on a bandwagon without trying. I however, am trying vista not just reading everything. If your not willing to either google vista issues or simply search for posts where I have gone into a lot more detail about vista issues, thats your problem not mine. I've documented them in quite a lot of detail in the past. It seems more like your the newb for trying to use what I used as simple examples against the OS. If I absolutely have to waste time detailing each vista issue again I will. Just dont expect it anytime soon as I dont see the need to state what I've already done before.

I had crazily been waiting for Vista, the next os that (i hope) will stay for another 3-4 years, I KNEW it wouldn't be right to buy it instantly without trying it out, so i got a copy of it using some means, and then bought it afterwards when I found it satisfying ;)
I researched a bit and got rid of the 'common' issues, and so i'm now running vista ultimate :D

I had vista for a short period of time, and i think it is disgusting that microshaft would put such a high price tag on something that lowers productivity and is just a juiced up version of XP. There is a service pack waiting to be released, certain games don't work, certain hardware doesn't work, and alot of people are going to be angry when they spend extra money for this crap OS.

After you do alittle tweaking vista pwn's XP IMO, If your using the 64bit version just disable digital signed drivers and everything works nearly perfectly... it may use alot of ram... but hey thats what its for anyway right???

certain games don't work, certain hardware doesn't work, and alot of people are going to be angry when they spend extra money for this crap OS.

This is where you wait to see games &/or hardware you have, is certified to run on VISTA... OR, check for patches to them @ the oem's website/ftp site for download.

There is also the WHQL HCL (hardware compatibility lists) that Microsoft maintains for their potential users & existing ones, all there for the taking, but you HAVE TO TAKE it (read it)...

There's also the VISTA "upgrade advisor" program for XP as well... to help automate that & take the 'drudge' out of research on your own yourself, online, etc. in places like this OR review sites etc..

I wouldn't put Vista on my PC for 2 reasons. 1. It is new and will certainly have issues (like EVERY other OS when ti was new) until SP1 rolls out. 2. With no DX-10 videocard or software on my PC it is senseless. You may have issues with it, but millions of people don't. You do sound like a noob because you are ranting about somethingthat 99% of the world doesn't care about. If you don't like it, uninstall it and run something else. How is ranting on and on that is suxxors gonna help anyone? Besides, because you have issues means the masses will? Get over yourself. Learn how to install and optimise an OS. All I see here is yet another childish rant that has made me not even want to browse this forum as of late since most things are "clubs" and "rants".

I think it rocks, sorry Kett! Ultimate's booting faster for me than my uptodate XP Pro SP2 somehow. Even while I was using the 1Gb dual channel kit I had no probs even playing FEAR/ CSS etc and with 2Gb it's nice, I like!

Just turn that stupid UAC thing off and it'll respond to what you tell it to do without hesitation, or maybe it's the ddr2 timings giving you jip eh? :D

Ketxxx, I'm assuming by Vista using too many resources, you're talking about ram? If so, the reason it uses so much ram is because it stores pieces of your most used programs in memory. This makes them launch faster than XP could even dream of. When a program needs the memory, it dumps those pieces. It does use more resources than XP, but it uses them more wisely. Just opening the performance tab of Task Manager doesn't tell the whole story. Also, like I stated earlier, Ultimate seems to use even more resources the Home Premium. I suggest you give Home Premium a shot, or If you don't need Media Center, why not give Business a shot. Not too many reports on the business version around here, maybe you could enlighten us?

omg its just been released, of course there are going to "some" bugs but i have no problem running it and am running it. it recognises a hell of a lot more hardware to boot than xp aswell. if hardware doesnt perfom/work in vista, is that down to m$ ?? no its down to the hardware manufacturers releasing good working drivers.

high price tag ?? ive just bought a copy of oem Vista home Premium for £60 brand new from a online retailor (thank you ebuyer ;) ) Xp is still the same price for oem or dearer for Pro.

goddam it people at least have a valid argument before you start to slate the most stable/fast OS m$ has released to date. (and before anyone says anything, i have it and am running it as said before, and with a few small tweaks/optimisations its BETTER than XP in many ways.)

like ive said there are a FEW bugs that need ironing out, aside from that most of what has been said on here is because ppl havent took the time to mess around and configure it properly, does the almighty XP run perfect oput of the box?? i think not! :rockout:

I don't get why people bash Vista so much... like wtf? It's getting really annoying on forums, and at my work to. I get these total n00bs coming into work saying, omg I don't want vista, it sucks. Yet they haven't even used it, or they did for five minutes and it was slightly different at first from XP and they immediately said it sucks.

I had the RC with beta everything, and it worked great.. I liked it. Yeah UAC was annoying, but that took about 10 seconds to disable. It's the same thing as XP when it comes to the end user, besides some things are laid out slightly different. And like, it's new, what do you expect... games have bugs, and drivers have bug, get use to it.. To me it's like a new car, different look, different features (inside and out), but it's still a car. I'm not going to rush out and by it, to the simple fact that XP works perfectly fine for me and I have little "need" to upgrade. Plus I have better things to spend my money; but I will eventually switch. But that's just my opinion...

I believe we will all switch when warranted too, or when Crysis is just kicking our ASSES in beauty and gameplay ::rofl:: I agree Dan, Im not gonna run out and buy it. I dont have a video card capable of really making VISTA Shine and I dont see a need for a DX 10 card when games arent out to support it en masse. But here in a few months, Im betting I will, even though I dislike a few features about it.

Ok so everybody kept saying vista was so good and almost orgasming over it (sad, I know) and refused to accept what I was saying about how sucky vista is. So I decided to waste time putting vista on Prowler an all I can say is it sucks royally. *insert 2-3 lines of profanity toward vista here*

Its the most retarded gay looking POS I've ever seen. Even more irritating is the fact it cant do the simplest farking task without you needing to give "permission" I mean FFS the user REQUESTED the opening of the program why the fark does vista also need "permission" stupid SOB. Then theres the audio quality, my god its HORRIBLE. I don't even want to investigate this OS anymore, the look, feel, and the way it operates actually makes me feel nauseas. I find it hard to accept after all the delays this is the best M$ could come up with, its utter shit.

Now, can anyone convince me its worth running this pile of crap for any amount of time?

If you don't like it, don't use it. Also, next time time, try to gather some real arguments before you start slagging off what you don't understand. Or is that too much of a challenge? Much easier to slag something off than to white constructive feedback, isn't it?

And if you're not competent enough to turn off UAC, then you really shouldn't be allowed near computers anyway.

Agreed, & Ketxxx makes a GREAT point on that above in fact: He states it is AMAZING how folks will 'jump on the bandwagon' from 'what they heard' rather than trying it for themselves, & he has a great point in that.

I've seen it before myself, when the Linux F.U.D. spreaders get to the Windows' users telling them how much better Linux is, OR how much more secure (omitting this is NOT truth & that Linux is behind in sheer application wealth for tasks as well).

AND, yes I am NOT 'above that' either & I have done it myself... & it's shameful - believing the 'hype', before testing it hands-on, myself.

This reasoning is WHY I went to Best Buy (big retail chain in U.S.) to @ least put my hands on VISTA to try it, HANDS ON!

See, before doing that hands on test myself? WELL, I too, started NOT liking VISTA based on things I * heard * about it, which is wrong...

E.G./I.E.-> It would be like hearing "Djbbenn or APK are BAD PEOPLE" & believing it, w/ out meeting us first person & first hand to make a judgement.

VISTA is very VERY secure outta the box unpatched even, certainly by way of comparison to XP, & by FAR!

See, as I showed Ketxxx earlier in this thread? I had VISTA's security tested as well per BELARC ADVISOR & unpatched, VISTA scored 4.32/10, which was iirc, higher than ANY XP box in the test, EVEN PATCHED & SECURED XP RIGS!

:)

* Personally, I think that if somebody took the time to do to VISTA what I did to Win2k3? It will blow away Server 2003 for security even, & by FAR.

APK

P.S.=> (Only my setup on Windows Server 2003 SP #1 FULLY hardened (5.00/10 score) outdid it, & that came @ CONSIDERABLE YEARS OF STUDY, WORK, & EXPENSE FOR IT TO DO SO on my end)... apk
