GTA San Andreas on Xbox 360. Pretty crappy port as sometimes the framerate drops to diashow levels, but still playable. Didn't have a savefile (as I got a "new" X360 not that long ago) so started from the beginning last night.

still haven't finished Stalker 2,
Was just trying to observe a chimera deal with some bloodsuckers when emission hits, then chaos

Got a couple games on the burner at the moment.

Jedi: Survivor - Kids have been asking to watch me play this for a while. Transfered the 6800xt from my main PC to my Steambox so we could run this thing smoothly at Epic settings. Through the first level at this point (got to the Mantis), game is very pretty and quite fun, although my old man reflexes need to get tuned up if I'm going to parry through some of these combat encounters (or maybe lean heavy on the dual blade stance "auto parry" feature).

Game is doing a good job picking up after Fallen Order, giving Cal more skills rather then resetting his abilities to Padawan for the sake of gameplay.

Sunset Overdrive - The zany "Gen Z" open world zombie skate shooter. Game looks like a ton of fun and is running great on my 980ti (which is in my main PC now) but after Mad Max I need a little break from post apocalyptic open world shooters, even if SO's entire tone and style is on the opposite end of the spectrum, so I'll probably bench this one for a while and come back to it after Jedi Survivor.

At the moment I'm mostly jumping between Forza Horizon 4, Battlefield 1, and the Half Sword demo—good mix for seeing how the iGPU holds up.

Having some medical issues recently, so sleeping 5x a day when not working, etc.

Can't really do a regular game at the moment, so I am playing little game on my phone in bed called Retro Bowl, I don't really like sports, but for some reason this little game amuses me and takes my mind off not feeling well. Can't do that with a regular game where I need to be more focused and thoughtful.

Game is more interesting than you may think is all. There's a lot of cultural/pop culture stuff in there. Just like having played Kingdom Hearts would explain a certain character to many.
It's not just all the outfits that are references, but a bunch of stuff including things I'd rather not mention as IYKYK, and if not, I hope your experience is still engaging...

It depends upon how much you know about Korea and different aspects including people, pop culture moments, and communication/culture including how media and the entertainment industry works.

That's all.

For instance, the Hard R patch because of the sign (which I honestly thought was because people in Korea either would say Stella or perhaps not pronounce the R correctly in Roxanne). That's my ignorance.
Stuff like that is intentional...not in a disrespectful way; in a positive-intentioned political way to literally inform people, including sometimes their own citizens in a way the pushback falls on the creator.
There are almost-certainly some folks, East and West, whom saw that (and/or the patch) and will now think two times before saying 'niga' ('you' in Korean), vs nigga or nigger. That is the point spelled out for you.

This is what Korea (and other) media often does. I think it's interesting; others don't know/care and I get that...but it's an interesting part of Stellar Blade (and a lot of things, actually).

I totally understand most people will miss an absurd amount of what's going on in/with this game, and that's cool. That's sometimes for the best. But if that's your thing...it's there.

This game, just like Nier, is actually incredibly 'woke' (not meant to be derogatory) and supremely ironic, that's in-fact why it's so funny/sad people *still*, just like Nier, focus on the female character design.

The people that attack it don't get it, the people that defend it ARE THE INTENDED AUDIENCE...but not for the reason they think. It's the spoonful of sugar method.
That's the point...but a well-meaning person can't say that bc then 'anti-woke' people will think it's woke, and well-meaning people will argue with each other for no reason. Get it?
..
Like Nier, many need to learn the message of games like these...and the only way they'll learn is to be fooled into supporting it through intended backlash and then embracing their messages themselves.

That truly is a gigantic spoiler for life, by the way...as that's how intelligent people teach...other people...is by making them think they're winning a war that doesn't exist to embrace other ideas on their own terms.

...and sex, well specifically conventionally attractive women to people so incredibly offended by other types of people that exist and now have a platform...It's an easy way in.

It won't work forever, but apparently still does. Once again, if you want proof this is the point, look at the (honorable) person that guards one 'temple' in the game.

I have now explained subliminal messaging when idiots are the intended audience (not people here; just sexists in general) and in doing so may in-fact have made the world worse if the wrong person reads it.

This is my frustration.

I truly did write it and delete it (after it was first released). It was in-fact the longest thing I've ever wrote on a forum, which for me is saying a lot. A lot of it was depressing bc, well...play the game.
Some of it very interesting, though, and there are a bunch of positive references as well. Again, it's part of the serious/sarcastic/ironic (political) nature that is in a lot of (especially Korean culture and) media.

As for the tampon thing, that's something I already knew. As that article implies (granted it isn't the best source, just a quick reference), obviously it's just a thing to consider; obviously people do as they choose.

I've heard it discussed many times over the years. I didn't intend to make a big deal of it...Think similarly to how rock music isn't particularly popular and hopefully you'll understand the mindset intended.
Again, that's not to say it hasn't evolved, simply slightly different way more and/or older people may view a certain thing. It's not unlike how many people may not think of digesting fish scales or even aloe.

It's kind of fascinating this game really does teach things about Korean [pop] culture, while also being very Korean in it's 'honest sarcasm' and humor...it's not just a female hacking and slashing.

Again, this is why I found it kind of shocking/funny/sad. It mixes the entertainment of a game with some very real stuff that feels like improper mixture of emotions...but that's also it's overall allure.

Despite that, I am once-again realizing I am discussing this in the wrong place...but I don't know where one would. So much of it feels awkward/offensive to discuss...

...which is literally exactly the point of why they did it.

Not many people playing 'sexy woman with hair tie sword' want to discuss eastern views of medicine, drug use, suicide/survivor guilt, or body modification (plastic surgery et al) as evolving issues.
They may discuss the hair parlor, but they even know what it means? I bet you I am one of the VERY FEW that know where some of those hair styles came from. Most wouldn't dare...

But this game kind of does.

Genius? Probably. Will most people that play it never understand most of it? Also probably. Is that for the better, or is it worse? Does one talk about those things? IDK!
