Hi im looking for my next cpu upgrade ill be using it for gaming manly,
Im looking a the following
QX9650 3.0Ghz 12mb
Q9650 3.0Ghz 12mb
QX6850 3.0Ghz 8mb
Q9550 2.83Ghz 12mb
Q9450 2.66Ghz 12mb

ill be using it down the track for OCING when it gets near it end of its life lol

q6600 or qx9650

is there a big performance jump for the QX6850 to the QX9650?

QX9650 FTW!!! Leaps and bounds the best CPU you can get.

I'd say depends on budget. If not a concern, then erocker is right, QX9650! If on a mild budget, you can't go wrong with a Q6600 and a Thermalrite E120U:rockout:

well if i want a QX9650 ill just have to save up but isnt there a Q9650? thats cheaper thats got a lock multiplier

Neither - grab yo self a E8400 Fool!

-=J/K=-

Unless you are intent on getting an Extreme branded processor (which you should ONLY be getting if you want to overclock to massive levels) get the best you can afford. The Extreme version is the excetion to this rule- don't throwaway the money unless you will appreciate that unlocked multi.

I bench at 4455MHz on my QX9650. :D I'd recommend it to anyone that has the money to burn on it. If you don't want to spend that much, I'd say Q9550.

i say QX9650 3.0Ghz 12mb and clock that thing to hell :D

what will be the rest of the sys?

not too many games/apps are utilizing 4 cores ATM

id grab an e8400 with a great mobo/ram/GFX combo, possibly some w/c and clock it all 'till it Hz ;)

but if you got the cash get it and enjoy :)

:toast:

every single one of the selection is overkill for gaming.. and there aint mch point in spending three or four times the money to so called future proof.. buy the cheaper for now and chuck it further down the line for something better and by then also cheaper..

trog

I would like to add that Trog is right. If gaming is the only priority, you probably don't need a quad. An E8400 or 8500 would be perfectly fine and save you a little cash. You could always get a quad later if games need it.

But if benchmarks matter to you, or you do anything that benefits from a quad like encoding or rendering, the quad is the way to go.

Yea if your just gaming get a E8400 or a Q9450.

Screw the processors, get some 9800GX2

8800GTS 512mb is about the same performance wise..

Want a new processor?
Have the money?
Get the best.

For performance and bragging rights.

I say get the cheapest that performs as good as the extremes :p cause im a cheap bastage lol I still say Q6600/E8400. Save your money.

The 9800gx2 cant do 3 way sli, oops.
But niether can the 8800GTS!
3 9800GTX will cost around $1000, the same as an Extreme processor. And he won't see much of a performance difference with a new processor. Tri SLI ftw!!

Tri SLI doesnt scale well with half of the games out so its pointless.. I say you dont need a new cpu unless you want a bigger epenis. Get another 8800GTS if you really want better game performance.
