What do you think the "GTX 1080 Ti" will be like?

Now we've seen the reviews of the new Pascal based Titan X we know how it performs (damned fast) and that the GPU is just that little bit crippled.

I think NVIDIA will release a cheaper "GTX 1080 Ti" type card with the bigger GPU priced somewhere between the 1080 and the Titan X. However, I reckon it will have a GPU that's crippled somewhere between the Titan X and the 1080. It could have less RAM at 6GB, but that would make it less than the current 1080 so wouldn't make sense. No, the only way to make a cheaper version of the Titan X now is to cripple the GPU more and perhaps clock it and the RAM slower. And maybe a 192-bit bus, but I think that would castrate it too much.

I miss the days of top end cards sporting an uncrippled GPU offering top performance and at a semi-affordable price. <sigh>

AS titan X just with 3000ish cuda cores an 8GB ram

Maybe there will be an Titan X Black with the full 3860 cores..... later..

Maybe we are too old? It will just have few more cut SM's.

It'll be around as fast as Titan X (Pascal) while costing significantly less. Why would they change the recipe, that worked well for past generations?

I think it will keep the 12GB G5X but have even less shaders activated, 3072 maybe or 3200, unlikely that it's more.

Combined with custom cooling and better clocks it will still be as fast as Titan X or better. The price will still be very high depending on AMDs Vega. I think 800-1000 is realistic on both Gpus.

Essentially it would be good if AMD is up for the battle, that way prices are lower.

This is a little bit of topic, but how wide is the memory bus in the full GP102 core? I mean, if the gtx970 had that 3.5Gb issue, couldn't it be that the new titan X or an even further cut down version of this chip have a similar problem? Afaik Pascal is quite similar to Maxwell...

It's 384-bit on Titan X.

It's 384-bit on Titan X.

It's the same on the Quadro P6000 (24GB). I wish that someeone could verify if the titan x has the same issue as the gtx 970, since it also has one module disabled...

nvidia would not be so dumb to do this again especially on a expensive card like this

It doesn't afaik. Given that lawsuit settlement on the 970 it would be idiotic to do this now.

Besides they never did this on the top models anyway.

We will never know for sure until someone tests it!

If Vega can compete with Titan X then 1080 Ti will be fully enabled GP102.
If not then 1080 Ti will be further cut down like 3072 or 3328 Cuda Cores.

@qubit I am going to take up a position different from everyone else: I don't think there will be a 1080Ti. There is zero reason for it with state of market like it is. No high end competition.

To do one it would have to be situated to where it doesn't lose sales to the 1080X or steal sales from It's big daddy. If there were competition at this level, they might consider risking the positioning.

The only reason I could see is if Nvidia end up with a load of crappy chips not usable in Titans, and need to use them.

Positioning the GTX1080 where it is displaced the 'ti'. I don't see it happening at all. I don't see Vega competing with Titan X.
If Vega beats the 1080, maybe we'll see a 'ti' but it would be difficult to find a niche for it, spec wise.

Yep that's how I feel too there just isn't a big enough "slot" between the 1080 and the Titan to justify another SKU. NOW that doesn't mean they won't try....

You're probably right which means that you've dashed my hopes of a semi-affordable Big Pascal card.

1) NVIDIA is going to react on what AMD does; or anticipate on what it will do.
2) Add the way of making the most money.
3) Mix it togheter.
4) Simplify it.
5) Present it to the hungry horde.
6) $$$$$$$
7) Repeat

 I'm sorry. I do hope I'm wrong, if that helps?

799$ and Fools Edition for 899$.

Just pointing out that when TSMC went from 40nm to 28nm there were problems with yields. Nvidia buys their GPUs by the wafer and they ended up with some chips that were slightly defective but could still be used. Nvidia didn't just toss these chips in the dumpster. They did the smart thing and used what they could to release the GTX 780 (non Ti). Now we have the jump to 16nm from 28nm and probably the same thing will happen at TSMC again.

I fully expect an 8 GB 1080 Ti that will be a little slower than the Titan X but probably about $400 cheaper.

this is 1080ti with a titan name slapped to it.
