What Gaming Keyboard to choose?

Been thinking recently of buying myself a new keyboard, more specifically something 'gamer-ish'.

Currently weighing up between a few different gaming keyboards, but I'm currently stuck between the Thermaltake Challenger Pro and the Razer Lycosa.

Even though the Thermaltake Challenger Pro has the 'gimmicky' fan attachment I really love its look and it seems to be sturdy and well rounded for gaming.

The Razer Lycosa also looks good and has been around for awhile and received much positive reception but something about it just doesn't appeal to me.

Just would like your opinion on these two keyboards and if you own any tell me your opinion about it. Also if you have any other keyboards I should look at (also had a quick look at the Logitech G15) then please suggest away.

However the shop I buy computer tech for doesn't supply any sort of 'gaming' mechanical keyboards such as the Blackwidow.

It's mostly a contest between Razer (the Arctcosa and Lyocsa), Thermaltake Challenger Pro and the Logitech G## series.

However the shop I buy computer tech for doesn't supply any sort of 'gaming' mechanical keyboards such as the Blackwidow.

so dont waste your money in a physical store, buy online. i reccomend pccasegear.com.au since you're an aussie.

I've had my Saitek Cyborg for about a year now and still think it's the best I've used so far. (Be aware it is a very large keyboard)

I picked up a Sidewinder X4 for $30 and couldn't be happier.

I got the Z-board now replace by Steelseries Shift ("improve over the old Z-board") anyhow i like it never got any problems with it even got the Doom3 key-set anyways the regular keyboard key-set still looks new no letters worn out although i use it a lot (since 2006) & it is also very easy keyboard to clean out

Anyhow i am still gona change my keyboard for something else mainly because i want to make a change i'll probably go for the Merc Sealth which can light up with 3 different colors & i like the looks

I just purchased the Razer Lycosa Programmable Backlit Gaming Keyboard about two weeks ago and love it so far
I have not programmed it yet, however I do like the lighted keyboard features as I like to game in the dark

That is the one i want to replace my Z-board with...
The only thing i am worried about are the lights (LED's?) does it last long time?
What if one burn out can i change it?

Anyhow i still want one i just hope the lights last for a good 3 years at least

rubber dome switches, boot up problems with gigabyte boards, LCD requiring external power pack... you sure can go wrong.

I actually buy using umart.com.au/ but they have stores spread across Queensland where you can pick up your purchases.

Don't really want to fork out that much for a keyboard, but it looks great.

I actually just ordered the Thermaltake Challenger Pro keyboard. It was a toss up between it and the Sidewinder X6 (really hard choice, I love what they did with it but seems massive and has way to many macro's for me, which I don't use really), Razer Lycosa (awesome keyboard and exact same price as the Thermaltake and even looks a little similar) and the Logitech G15. They were all around the exact same price and I loved the Sidewinders detachable feature and the Logitech screen.

I really hope I made the right choice since I'm really loving the Sidewinder x6 now.

I just read this on a review of the Challenger Pro which have got my hopes high again.

The Tt eSPORTS Challenger Pro Gaming keyboard is Thermaltake’s mid-range non-mechanical gaming keyboard (the top of the line being the recently announced Challenger Ultimate) and has a lot more features over its rivals in the same price point. In fact, it looks very similar to Microsoft’s Sidewinder X6 gaming keyboard but adds a significant amount of improvements for about the same price. Both keyboards share a similar low-profile keypad design and pill-sized function keys but the Challenger Pro has significantly more macro storage capability, has replacement key caps, has a removable (and more importantly replaceable) USB cable, a mini-cooling fan, keycap remover tool, portable bags for the keyboard and all accessories, and an actual functioning software.
