What is the best 1080p monitor on this list?

I'm also looking to get two of whichever is recommended for some eyefinity. The viewsonic worries me because of the low vertical refresh rate that is listed (50?) I'm most leaning towards the Asus EPEAT edition. I'm essentially looking for what will produce the highest quality picture out of these guys especially when it comes to producing actual blacks and having minimal bleeding effect.

I definitely have those as my top 2. Price (w/ shipping) is 2 dollars difference do you think either would have the edge on picture quality w/ the samsung being LED backlit vs the Asus not?

Eyefinity requires DisplayPort on at least one monitor. I would also be looking at 1920x1200, not 1920x1080 for the sake of backwards compatibility (1600x1200 is supported perfectly by most 1920x1200 monitors).

I'm a sucker for Samsung but that Samsung only has a 1 year warranty when 3 year is the norm. That tells me they know they put cheap components in it.

What the crap! I guess so. Samsung only manufacturers two 1920x1200 monitors now starting at about $350. Even the cheapest listed on Amazon start at well over $200.

I am extremely disappointed in the industry. They are needlessly placing a premium on those 230,000 pixels. A year ago, 1920x1200 monitors were abundant in flavors.


2 monitors is standard for virtually any video card (NVIDIA included). Eyefinity is only special because it bumps that up to 3 (Eyefinity) or 6 (Eyefinity6).

And thanks for the clarification on the eyefinity. With the 2 desktops would I still be able to stretch out gameplay screens onto both monitors?

i just bought the 24" version of that viewsonic and like it alot (the vx2450). i'd recommend the 22" in a hearbeat.

wouldn't get the samsung, it only has a year warranty. i had a 3-yr warranty lcd die after about 30 months (the rectifier, i'd suspect). man was i glad it had a 3-yr warranty...

Picture quality is the same between traditonal and LED backlit screens. The LEDs just use less power and are a little cooler.

I have the 23.6" Asus, and couldn't be happier.

You might want to check out the Dell link that was provided. They used to make IPS panel monitors, which are far superior to the TN panel monitors, which is what you are looking at. TNs fake most of the color spectrum, and have the narrowest viewing field. Mine is a TN, and I think it looks fine, but people who are more sensitve to colors and quality vastly prefer the IPSs. http://www.pchardwarehelp.com/guides/lcd-panel-types.php

Having seen 1080p monitors from samsung, asus, and viewsonic... I'd say the viewsonic. However with each manufacturer having panel lottery issues it's really an impossible question to answer. Though asus may have a leg up purely for the HDMI option.
