I have been wondering what do you guys think the Series X GPU is relative to?

I believe that the Series X GPU is relative to the GeForce RTX 3060 TI. While the 3060TI has 33% more Flops in Floating-Point Performance and a 10% Higher Texture Rate, the Series X has better memory bus width speed and a faster texture rate.

I believe it's also relative to the RTX 2080 (Regular Desktop), The GTX 1080 TI, PS5 GPU (Obviously), The Nvidia Quadro 5000, Titan XP, and RX 6600 XT. What can you agree and disagree with me?

(Edit: Please don't start a toxic console war or compare both platforms entirely)

It terms of rasterization performance, similar to what you said, RTX 3060 Ti, maybe a tad slower, I believe it would hover around the RTX 2080 Super, hard to compare when it comes with AMD's GPU's even though they're both RDNA2 but AMD leaves a gap wide open when it comes to Tflops & CU's but if I were to compare, about 9% slower than a RX 6700 XT in terms of Tflops due to its higher clock speed even though the Scarlet GPU has more CU's but then again, Scarlet has more memory bandwidth to play with.

I thought they're close to 6700 XT but I could be wrong.

both PS5 and Series X are about RX 6600XT horse power
Incorrect, the PS5's GPU will be on par but the 6600 XT has less memory bandwidth & infinite cache can only do so much, Series X would be faster than the 6600 XT.

It's really hard to put it into perspective as there is no comparable desktop counterpart.

If we just look at hardware specs the Series X hardware is higher than a RX 6600XT but lower than a RX 6800 Non-XT. It looks to be a custom RX 6700XT with more CUs 52 vs 40z

Now if we look at the PS5 it's specs are identical to the RX 6700 Non-XT. Exact same

It lies somewhere between the 6600 XT and 6700 XT. There's no direct comparison since it is custom silicon for Microsoft Xbox with a Zen 2 CPU and shared GDDR6 memory (10GB for graphics at a higher memory bandwidth, 6GB for general computing tasks at a lower memory bandwidth).

Since the Xbox Series X is marketed as a 4K console, it's probably functionally closer to the 6700 XT. The 6600 XT is really a 1080p/1440p GPU.

Since this custom APU supports ray tracing, all comparisons with GTX GPUs are out. And based on Radeon architecture, it's going to compare better to another Radeon GPU rather than a GeForce GPU.

Xbox series might have slightly higher core count, but the ps5 has higher clock speeds, and from what we'v seen so far in game performances, both can be good for the games that might benefit fro either, if anything to take from over a year of digital foundry reviews, both run game close to each other

I've always compared PS4 & Xbone (the OG models) to HD 7850, some games can look pretty damn fine on those consoles when the desktop Radeon can't do that.

Or when thinking the OG Xbox's GF3/4 hybrid and PS3's 7800 GTX'ish GPU.

OG Xbone used a HD 7790 not a HD 7850

PS4 I can’t remember but ill
Look into
It

Ah, good point. I just remember PS4 having similar config as 7850.

e: 1152 shaders, 72TMUs, 32ROPs @ 800MHz. The memory has a 256-bit bus.

I think the Series X was originally targeting 2080/2080 super like performance in early showings they compared Gears 5 and performance was pretty much identical.

The thing with consoles though is they will likely age better than similar PC hardware due to continued optimization that older pc hardware will not get.

Exactly. I have no clue which you can compare PS2 but the later games on it looked pretty damn good on it. Like Black, Shadow of the Colossus and GT4 for example.

PS4 has much better hardware than the OG Xbone. Microsoft didn’t catch up until the Xbox One X which was based off a RX 590

I find it weird how there was so much difference in the GPUs between those, rival consoles from the same era..

It’s mostly due to them having different goals

PS4 was marketed as a gamers console. Built for the gamer and games.
The Xbone originally launched as an entertainment system. Gaming wasn’t the big focus until they were being old sold on all fronts. Sales were horrid for Microsoft and not to mention Devs struggled with games on it. Most games on the OG Xbone struggled to even hit 720P at 30FPS which was bad.

I like to compare the One X GPU to the GTX 1060 6GB. They both seem cool midrange gpus.

One X GPU is on par with an RX 580 GPU in terms of Tflops & same architecture as well, main differences are memory bandwidth, less CU's but higher clocks.

I would have thought it be likened to the Nvidia RTX 3080..

The 3080 is quite a bit more powerful at least 1.6x in rasterization and probably more than 2x in RT.

If Microsoft and Sony do pro versions of their consoles they may come close though.... Something in the neighborhood of the 6800XT could be possible in a couple years in a console form factor.

And you are sure the next consoles that are going to be made in the 9th generation are likely to have GDDR6X?

I'm waiting for the MS Holosuite edition with 20 holographic projectors I hear it'll be out in 2350 ish

Unlikely, although it hasn't really helped Ampere outperform RDNA2 in rasterization performance so probably unnecessary.

I'm pretty sure GDDR6X is an Nvidia only thing that they co-developed with micron

I'm just waiting for SAO to be a thing.... Hopefully they keep the if you die in the game it carries over to real life feature intact.

Only if you manually turn of all the safeties first otherwise it'll be pussyfied because you just know some little mamma's boy in the basement just can't handle dieing for real

imo "all of the gpus below", simply because the drivers would be crap at launch (thats for sure), so in reviews it would perform like a normal 6600 but in a few years it will definitely gain more support and stability/performance patches (maybe reaching 2080 heights). But it would still mean that intel would release a gpu in 2022 that matches a half-decade old card from nvidia (1080ti), lol.
