What PC combo would be the better one?

Whatever is on massive sale. Massive + Sale is the only combination that qualifies in the current market.

The fact 12-15 gen Intel and basically the same for AMD remain in stock at retailers should be a massive clue. Get out cheap and live without considering inferiorities a larger spend would remove.

can you list the rest of the system to go with said combos ?
do you have the rest of the parts already at home or are you building a brand new system ?
are these a second hand market parts or some old stock retailer combo deals ? (can you list the price for each individual combo?)
what games are you planning to play and what is the resolution and refresh rate of your monitor ?

The options are
3070 + i5 14600KF
3070 Ti + 5900X
7800 XT +7700X
The 7800XT + 7700X is the fastest option I think from the ones listed.

You can probably get the RX 9070 (or XT) or Nvidia 5070ti and pair that with the i5 14600KF.

7800 XT +7700X // better gnu linux support - less idle power for my powercolor 7800xt hellhound. newer mainboard. long term support of am5 socket

problematic 14600KF - Intel never solved the issue in my point of view - bad handling of the issue - I have personally lots of issues wiht intel hardware. And even one SSD with lenovo security bugs which can be seen even on lenovo homepage with intel

5900X - old, slow, bad two chiplet design. -> my 7600x is now much faster. in may 2023 it was a 1 vs 1 exchange for my previous ryzen 5800x to the new ryzen 7600x. Lots of known security bugs which slow down the cpu. mainboard firmware will be much less as on the nwer am5 socket.

I would not even want it and sell it instantly on the second hand market. 3070 ti / 14600 whatever / 5900x

None of them are great tbh.

The originally suggested CPUs are not bad but certainly less than ideal for gaming. With that said, perf is close enough imo -

5900X is still faster for generic software dev stuff compared to a 7600 - https://www.techpowerup.com/review/amd-ryzen-5-7600-non-x/8.html

out of those it would be number 3, but if there are prices involved... could be different

I do play some open source games in gnu gentoo linux and a lot of free games in windows 11 pro with my Ryzen 7600x and Powercolor 7800XT with a WHQD Screen with freesync range ~37-75 fps.
I think it's a good combo for older games like those free amd giveaway games or the epic games giveaway games.

I would recommend what's cheaper Ryzen 7500f (careful f) / 7600 or 7600x. In my area for a long time the 7700 non x tray version is very cheap.

7800 XT +7700X

AFAIK AM5 will support Zen 6

Why not 14600k(f) + 7800 xt?

Yeah, option 3 with 16GB on the card.

The AM5 has two more CPU generations left in that socket and the GPU is pretty nice.
With all other things being equal it is the best choice, has room for upgrades and will live longer. It's also likely the most performant of them in gaming, or the margin is so small that it does in no way outweigh the more modern platform.

Caveat: If the AM5 is a Dell, HP, Lenovo or heavily integrated other it will not have the same future, but is still probably the best of the three.
