Gee whiz, dude! No I didn't. You got a problem if you think "warranties matter in the US" implies anything about warranties in Europe. I say again,
You are simply wrong to say warranties don't matter in the US.
That IN NO WAY suggests anything - except that you may be a push-over! It especially does not suggest you would have got any different results in Europe, Australia, Asia, Brazil, or on the moon.
Yeah. It does. Because in Europe they have this little thing called the Sale of Goods Act, which imposes a minimum of 2 year warranty on EVERYTHING, enforceable by law. We have no such thing here - which is why warranties mean nothing.
And to suggest your two examples represents all products and all companies across the entire country is just absurd. If you had condensation inside your waterproof case, guess what? That's your fault! Waterproof means water cannot get "out" too!
ORLY? So basically what you are saying is "Taz, you are absolutely correct, warranties mean absolutely nothing because manufacturers will invent any excuse not to honor a warranty - including that the humidity in the air caused a WDI to trip".. Right? That's what you mean by that? Because otherwise WHO THE EFF TAKES THEIR PHONE TO A HERMETICALLY SEALED ZERO HUMIDITY ROOM IN ORDER TO INSERT IT INTO A CASE?
And for the record, before pretending you know how the law works, you might want to read up on The Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act, in particular, the section covering
Prohibited tying.
If things worked the way you claim, Ford truck owners would not be able to change the oil in their own trucks. They would not be able to use Pennzoil or Fram filters instead of Ford branded oil and filters as that would void the warranty.

For the record, you have no clue what you're talking about. They can put whatever they want in the warranty. They can require them to be serviced at an authorized repair center to continue the warranty, and they can deny warranty service for a voided/tampered seal - as long as it is explicitly laid out in the warranty text. Magnuson Moss has absolutely NO bearing whatsoever. Once again you're stretching with completely irrelevant analogies. (re: Ford) Maybe you should try yoga. You seriously think these companies with legal departments operating on budgets in excess of the GDP of some small nations would expose the companies to that kind of liability if they were breaking the law? You can say that with a straight face? You seriously think manufacturers are responsible for honoring a warranty after Joe's Tacos & Electronics repair "while U eat" took a whack at it? You are sorely mistaken.
You: Hey Sony, my PS4 no werx no mor. Fix it under warranty.
Sony: Well we can't because the the warranty seal is broken, it has been opened outside of an authorized service center
You: Well I just opened it up to clean it now it no werx no mor. Fix it under warranty.
Sony: I see. Well that explains all the SMD components that have been blown off the board.. Warranty Denied.
You: I haz Magnuson Moss protectionz, you HAZ ta fix it.
Sony: LOL.
