I have this processor it says (sl6wf costa rica) pentium 4 processor but I have know idea what socket this is...? any help. I have a 775 board but I dont wanna put it in there without knowing if it's for that. any help would be great cause I have to get this done by tonight!!!!

That processor is socket 478.

It is easy to tell the difference between Socket 478 and 775. Simply look at the bottom of the processor. If there are pins on the processor than it is socket 478, if there are simply contacts, than is socket 775.

easy way to tell is if it has pins on the chip or not the 775 dont have pins and the 478's have pins on the chip

EDIT: thermo sucks!! lol you got to it before me

right on thanks fellas. I got a huge prob now. I went to comp usa and they told me that I was buying a 478 mobo. and me being trustworthy, got it with out double checking it and now I'm piecing together this comp for a client tomorrow and I'm pretty much F*ked cuz I was going to use their old cpu and just replace the mobo. gd

I believe I answered you in the post right after your question.
