It's RT optimisations or nothing. That means RTX 4xxx gen. or higher. Unfortunately, well out of my budget, so it means drink tea and wait 12 months until prices come down.

6800XT over the 4070 by a hair for a new build. Nothing if I was upgrading from my current as none are better enough.

I wanted to buy the 3080 when it arrived 2 years ago, but it was unavailable at the $700 MSRP for years. When the 7900XT and 4080 reviews and pricing came out, it became clear that nothing would beat the 6800XT at 1440p HRR raster so I bought it for $570.

Nothing much has changed since then and I'd get the same one. The 4070 is good, but not quite good enough at the listed price differential. A $50 swing in favor of the 4070 would make me switch my vote as DLSS and to a lesser extent RT are better enough for the 4070 to warrant the slight price premium despite the shortage of VRAM.

6950 XT reached below $650.

I picked up a 6750XT for $379 for a 2nd build reusing an older Ryzen 3900x that came back into my hands.. I think the 6700XT/6750Xt are really good for price and performance at 1440p.
I got mine for a little better price at $369. It is a fantastic card for 1440p. In comparison, the 3070 could not be found for less than $550 several months ago when I upgraded. The 3060ti could not be found for under $400. Nvidia's pricing is delusional but the gamers just keep buying.

At the quoted prices, I'd go with the 6800XT for $510.

But things may look different with local pricing and availability. I can get the 6950XT for the equivalent of $565 w/o tax, making it an even better deal here.

4070 clearly

6900XT, 6950XT were DOA.
6800XT ....no way.
You save 90$ and you have Turing level at best or miles worse RT performance, no DLSS2 or 3 and a truck load of watt as power consumption.

3090 is DOA. The 24GB do not make any difference to the gamers.
The 3080 isn't attractive now.
For 50$ you should go for 4070. The power consumption, DLSS3, general RT improvements, power consumption etc. worth the extra 50$.

The 7900XT is great card but quite expensive and the 4070Ti is generally better.
The 4070Ti is quite expensive as well and gamers should better spend their money in something cheaper and upgrade again later, if it's necessary, rather than invest to a very expensive hardware now like a 4070Ti.

At these prices, I'm torn between the 6800XT and the 4070. The 4070 has better ray tracing performance and lower power draw which is a consideration in the summer. The 6800XT has similar rasterization performance and its power draw can be lowered through various means. However, here, the only option when buying new is the 4070 as the cheapest 6800XT is more expensive than the 4070.

4070 has too little VRAM, so got myself a XFX 7900xt. And to my surprise it's quieter than previous Gigabyte 3070

I (and, perhaps, a fair number of other folks) am waiting for a current gen midrange from AMD to compete (and compare) w/ the 4070.

I don't need RT or DLSS (I only play older MMOs that support neither, but I do play them at 4k so VRAM and rasterization speed are priorities; AMD gets a nod here for me). The older AMDs seem like decent values when discounted, but those power budgets are awful (beyond my psu by a lot) and I expect they'll release midrange cards in 3-4mos...Plus that'll put pressure on the 4070, too; win-win.

Maybe I'll get a 4070 at a discount (not eager to get one at MSRP, ngl!), maybe my first time to go "red". But right now....no. Too obvious that AMD is due to release a competitor, which can only help matters. That 4070 seems a little too little for a little to much, and miss-focused for my needs. Prolly great for folks who play AAA shooter-whatevers, but not me.

Where is the 6800, that card must be like $400 US now.
Basically what I paid for mine $430usd ish ($600 CAD) when it was only 4 months old second hand. Have the box and receipt for warranty. Disturbingly the most I have ever paid for any single pc component since started upgrading/building them circa 2000.

There is an option missing from the list and its what the 6950XT should have been replaced with and thats the 3080-12GB. The 6950XT was and has been shown it be pointless as it sucks up way, way too much power (uk electricity bills atm) for the few extra FPS it giver over the 6900XT.

I myself and leaning toward a 7900XTX/4080, for which I will trade my 3080-12gb and laptop Im not using., lowering the upgrade to £200. Then I will undervolt in afterburner just like I am doing with the 3080 atm.

Almost everything at these prices:D

I would pay 600€ for a 16GB 4070. Everything else is either too expensive or too power hungry and the 12GB 4070 is just not a worthy upgrade from 3060Ti.

AMD is cheaper and faster now than last gen for the top SKUs at launch MSRP:
That's only because nvidia upped the 4080 by $500.
Had the 4080 been released a $900 for example, the 7900xtx would have a max of $800.

A new Powercolor Radeon RX 6800 XT Red Dragon *which is the cheapest version for sale) cost $694 incl 25% VAT where I live.
I would buy a PowerColor Radeon RX 7900 XT Red Devil which is priced at $1.279 incl 25% VAT.

I'm currently using an Asus GeForce RTX 3080 TUF with a Ryzen 9 5900X, But have decided to wait until Zen 5 before upgrading the CPU, MB and ram.
But I'm currently very tempted to get a PowerColor Radeon RX 7900 XT Red Devil.

6800xt will overclock 15%+ with ease and do 10k+ GPU on Timespy Extreme, has 16GB Vram. For raster it's a no brainer at $510?

If you want RT Nvidia options are better though.

Depends on use case.

Actually it would be nice if there was a half height rx 6600 (like low power mobile version)

You can find RX 6600M desktop GPUs on AliExpress but they're all full height and usually 2 slots wide. Also set to 100W, where half height are usually slot-power only models limited to ~70W. Still, a low-power low-profile version of this would be a great option.

Probably a 6800 XT, although I don't think any of these cards represent good value right now. The 7900 XT because the faster XTX can be had for a few bucks extra, Nvidia 40-series because all models are overpriced, and Nvidia 30 and AMD 6000-series because they are at the end of their in-store life cycles, which means their price on the used market is going to drop like a stone pretty soon.

The only GPU I think is worth buying right now is the RX 6600 and 6650 XT.

6600 for $200 is a fantastic buy. 6650XT is usually the same price as the 10GB 6700 which (although fewer models exist) is a much better bet with more VRAM, more RT cores, and more bandwidth to cope with 1440p where the 6650XT falls a bit flat.

RDNA2 seems like a safe buy to me - because it has enough VRAM for its price point and the RDNA3 stuff is currently on the same price/performance curve as the RDNA2 stuff - meaning there's no downside to buying the older card apart from a little less efficiency and a lack of AV1 encode.

Let's say the 7800XT launches at $549 with 6950XT performance. It's good, but barely 10% better performance/$ than the 6800/6800XT/6900XT/6950XT. I wouldn't have buyer's remorse over such a small difference. If the 7800XT launched at £499 with 3080Ti performance, then I think buyer's remorse would be justified. I also think that such price/performance is extremely unlikely given that AMD are barely undercutting Nvidia at the moment.

I agree. It's a shame the 6700 (non-XT) isn't available everywhere.

Sorry, but I am still waiting for missing piece AMD RX 7800XT 16GB to be released.

I am waiting and hope that the 7800 XT is seeing the light of day this year and see the performance.

But I wouldn't buy any of the cards right now I will hold on to my PowerColor Radeon RX 6800 XT Red Devil it gives me the satisfaction at 1440p that the RX 6800, RTX 3070 and the RTX 3090 couldn't.

We just got the prices for 4070 here. The cheapest ones are at the 6800XT price. So yeah, a brand new 12GB vRAM card with DLSS3 or an almost 3 year old card with 16GB and no RT/DLSS, decisions ... decisions.
Same here, 6800XT are at the same price or higher than the 4070, and they are pretty much always out of stock. My 2070S has pretty much done the job with it's measly 8GB so far even at 1440p, so 12GB should be enough for me, and the consumption and RT performances are better than the 6800XT, not to mention DLSS3. So 4070 here I come.
