If I had to buy now it would be a 6800XT or a 6900XT 6950XT (new or used). ;) Still the best deal & enough performance, plus good undervolt scaling.
If not in urge I would wait & see what the 7800 and 7800XT brings to the table. And if AMD can fix the broken FPS capped power usage. Let's hope it's only driver related and no 7000 series hardware flaw.

*P.S.: just checked prices over here. The 6950XT (649€) is even 100€ cheaper than the 6900XT (749€). That's wild! Cheapest 6800XT goes for 569€. With such prices I would pick the 6950XT. Much faster than the 6800XT. And with a nice undervolt you can reach pretty humane power levels, plus the card stays cool & silent. Best bang for the buck right now.
Its a real shame you need a 1000W PSU to run that card proper though. If you haven't got that already, the 6950XT suddenly becomes pretty pricy.
 
There is a Biostar 6900XT in Greece selling for 562 euros. So tempting, but 350W is just way too much power.

Yep.. Im undervolting my 7900XT to the max... 286W tbp. Still I notice both in case temp and in the room that I have added a rough 100W of continuous power over the (also UVd) 1080.. Anything over 300W is really something to (re-)consider long and hard imho.

6800XT is an easy choice.
 
It is amazing how this poll belies the narrative. The top 2 cards are the 6800XT and 4070 but the 7900XT is in 3rd. Interesting. I guess RT and DLSS are not the cat's meow (selling point) people call it. Obviously Nvidia has an advantage for rendering but I guess most TPU users are Gamers. At the end of the day I am sticking to my belief that no one will win until we can get $300 Cards with 16GB of VRAM and as fast as a 6700XT. That would be the Arc 770 when the drivers are good enough (to actually compete). We do need one from Team Red and Green though. The 6700XT is the most affordable compelling card but at a minimum of $499 CAD it is still to expensive. At Computex I feel we will see AMD complete the stack and we should see a 7800XT and 7700XT with 16 and 12 GB VRAM buffers. That should put some nice pressure on the 6700XT to fall to $399. I expect the 7800XT to be $499 or $599. That should make the 7600XT $399 :mad: but pressure should put it to $299 for a 10GB VRAM buffer. Of course that is all just my opinion.
 
I can picture the 8700 XT being the perfect card. 16GB+ VRAM launching Q1 of 2025 and will probably have a DLSS 3 equivalent because the Pro consoles will be coming up that GPU gen. If people want a good deal. That'll be it. Should handle full 4k 120 fps even without FG on most of the time and be able to handle high VRAM loads like LoU1 max out no problem. It'll probably have the new Display Port(/HDMI?) allowing full 12 bit 4096 x 2160 144hz+. I think we're getting GDDR7 next gen as well.

Oh, these fantasies) The cards with the number 70 100% won't be able to handle full 4k 120 fps without FG in the games released in 2024-2025-2026. Companies will still need to sell us cards with the numbers 80 and 90) At best, it will be 1440p 120 fps, and even that is not guaranteed.

You do have a good point. Things are getting strangely unoptimized. I would bet it would even run things like BF 2042 4k 120fps even with no FG, which was considered very hard to run at launch. Anything 2024-2026 could be considerably harder. Even with FG on, it might not get 120 fps. Of course I don't think it'll be doing super high path tracing, but the initial results from GDDR7 have shown very promising results for 4k. We'll still probably need the 5090/8900 XTX for gaurenteed full path tracing in 4k @ 120Hz in 2025 titles.

I'd love to know witch part of the world these prices apply to, because in my neck of the woods things are quite a bit different on the nvidia side. A 3080 is around 700e tax included, with some models going up to 900e. The 4070 is also 700e (cheapest card I could find in stock is 702e tax included) and again go up to 900e. The 3090 is out of stock, and the last listing I could find is ~1500e. The 6800XT is anyware from 550 to 600e tax included, and the 6900xt is about 700e.

This needs to change. Even with slightly higher shipping costs to get those items there; I wish there was a way for either nVidia or the manufacturer to eat the cost. They already make enough profits from these GPUs and they'd easily sell another 15% or more just matching the prices across the world.

Also, if you've never had a 350-400W GPU in your system before and your case-cooling (and room cooling) isn't ready for it, that can be quite the shock and results in yet more unplanned spending.

I have purchased 3 months ago a XFX MERC 319 6800XT for 650 EUR in Eastern Europe and it was a vendor mistake, they didn't update the prices on one of their shops. BEST GPU choice ever. I have 1 x 49in Dell and 2 x Dell 27 inch 2K and it doesn't break a sweat. Tested it with a 4K screen as well and has no issues. It does have a coil whine that I noticed but with a more soundproof case, or gaming with headphones - not a problem.

As you can see, you can get a custom 6900XT for the price of a 4070... There are a few cheaper 4070's to be had, but they're usually out of stock. I see the price of the 3070 has gone down a lot as well, and they're in stock now, but the 6700xt is still 100e cheaper than the 3070. As for the 6800xt - I can't find it in stock anyware - same for the 3080....

No, you don't need a 1000W PSU to run a 6950XT. With a moderate undervolt the card only draws ~250W, without loosing noticable performance. ;) Pretty sure you could tweak it even more.
With a undervolt the card isn't much behind the 4070 in terms of efficency. Plus the card is way faster in rasterization.

I can't speak for the 6950XT but my experience with the 6900XT is that despite being tuneable with an undervolt to run at well under 300W, the transient spikes will cause even a decent-quality PSU like a Corsair RM750X to bluescreen or crash the driver.

The problem with Navi21 is shared by GA104 from the 3080 and up; High transient spikes that demand a lot more from a PSU than their TDP would have you believe.
I don't have the expertise to capture board power levels independently from the PC like reviewers do, but I wouldn't be surprised to see an undervolted ~250W 6950XT still occasionally spike at >500W.

Yeah I personally wouldnt choose to buy a GPU on a below spec PSU. Even if you can make it work. I rather like being able to use the 7900XT any way I like, even if 24/7 is an undervolt. For me stability > everything else tbh.

From what I gather, certain Navi 21 cards, or at least as reviewed we're atrocious, check out the 6900XT spikes. Individual samples could be the devil in the details here, but my 3080 TUF running maxed out power slider so 370w constant, never once had a transient spike that stopped my system with a corsair SF600 Gold/5900X (at the time). I won't delve too much into anecdotes and single sample examples, but for all the hype these power hungry GPU's got (especially leading up to 40 series launch), it seemed to be mostly a non issue for most. I'd have no hesitation running a 450w card on my current SF750.

I would go for the RTX 4070, when it costs €500.

I choose it for consumption/power. We are going crazy with 1200W power supply. I guess my power company would recommend better graphics and textures ; )

FYI, on April 27 the egg in US has 6950xt at 599.99 and briefly had an extra discount of 15. That's a heck of a discount from msrp and a lot of gpu for the price.
6800XT is hovering around 525, but got at low as 505 with a discount a couple days ago.
The 3080 is stuck at 700US, interestingly. 3070 @ 450US.

IDK if the psu req'ts put people off, or if amd's rep for bugs/issues is a factor, or folks love RT, or if amd just has a lot more old stock to clear, (or all of the above) but the prior gen amd's seem to be discounted a *lot* more than prior gen nv.

Prices are all over the place in Portugal (according to the main price comparison site). To name a few examples:
  • The cheapest 6800XT is just 5€ more than the non-XT 6800 (585 vs 580€)
  • Several 6650XT models are cheaper than the cheapest 6600XT (359€)
  • Even a 6700 (non XT) can be found at 355€
  • The cheapest 7900XT costs 915€ and the cheapest 6900XT start at 929€ (not a typo!)
  • The cheapest 6950XT is ~810€

How does the card scale with a frame limiter? :confused: Do you see a considerable power usage drop or is it crap like on the 7000 series?
