what x38?

I'm going to get a x38 board fairly soon but i'm not sure what board oc a quad good. i am getting a q9450 soon as well.

so ddr2
oc a quad
pci-e 2.0

I heard the Asus Maximus Formula's are good boards. Arent the x48's (DDR2) coming soon, like within a month? Once those come out, should drop the prices of the x38's (if you care about that or can wait).

official 1600 FSB support, maybe better components compared to x38 (read better OC, but nothing proven). x48's will also come with DDR2 and DDR3 versions. Other than that, not much diff. that I know of - I think Anandtech did a comparison of x38 vs x48 (DDR3 early sample) a couple of months back with little/no difference. But from sales/marketing point - x48 is going to be the "top dog" board.

Old, but I've seen a couple of other sites in the past week or two that have talked about DDR2 X48's.

Edit: From French site, but self explanitory - note they were supposed to be out December so could be delayed a bit.

Don't like em much either. And I hate where Asus puts the battery - same spot as my P5W - right under the PCIE, so you have to remove the VGA to pull it. Probably not an issue on these boards that have a Clr CMOS button, but I know its a pain on my board.

i'm getting a x48 i guess (when it comes out) i'm not in a HUGE hurry as i gotta scrape up enough cash to buy parts to rebuild/build my computer and my computer for my mom using existing parts (my hand-me downs) and some new ones.

I definitely like the Abit (although never used them). At least if I want to go with an aftermarket HS on the NB/SB/VREG, I dont have to start chopping heatpipes to do it like the others.

Edit: On the bad side, I dont like where Abit/MSI have put their floppy connector (yes, I still use one, for xp reinstalls), and when is an ASUS board going to come out with ATX/IDE/Floppy all on the right side AND have esata - this is why I have been hanging onto my P5W. Only thing it doesnt have are the SATA ports at a right angle for CM.

Im waiting for the damn DFI LanParty LT x38 to come in stock. I have it preordered at motherboardpro.com already and Im just waiting for them to stop delaying it due to customs.

Can you cancel that order? Why didn't you go to NCIXUS like I linked in your thread? It's in stock and cheaper than that place.

To be honest, I hadnt checked my thread because I never got an email stating that there was a reply to it.

Umm, when is Intel going to update their SB? It just seems like the ICH9R has been around forever. If their isn't a huge noticeable gain in OC ability or some more features, then I don't think x48 its worth my money.

I think I'm going to travel down that road once the x48's come out. I've had my eye on the Maximus Formula for quite sometime now

The price drop's going to entice me into building my new rig soon.

Yeah, it's in stock, but only cheaper if you don't insure it. That's garbage that you have to pay extra for NIX to insure it for the full amount... :mad:

EDIT: BTW, on the Gigabyte boards, the "T" model is DDR3 (for X38 or X48).

ICH9R isn't old at all. It just came out with the P and/or G 31/33/35 boards.

My vote goes to the Maximus Formula. Great board.
