whea_uncorrectable_error in gaming or GPU test

Sorry to interrupt your discussion about voltage.

Continuing...

I took out that big fan I had placed throwing air into the system.

I played NBA 2k17 for 20 minutes without crash. (Remember, the game crashed after about 20 seconds after the first jumpball).

GPU temp stabilized in 65 ºC while I playing (same as before the big fan).

So... now the only thing I did was lower the GPU clock from 940mhz to 900mhz.

That made me think ...

The standard clock of a r9 280 is 827mhz.
My Sapphire r9 280 came with 940mhz from the factory.

Do you guys think taht after so much time with this boost clock as default it has become defective and now only works with a lower clock?
Would it be possible?

It is possible. Lower clocks= cooler running.

If that card doesn't have a Manufacturers Warranty I'd take it apart and replace the thermal compound on the GPU and any thermal interface material on the VRMs and RAM. If it is under warranty I would RMA it. Clean the fans out on the case and the GPU and CPU too

I'd still put something over the Motherboard VRM set too.

by the way Look at the Maximum Temp my CPU obtained along with the package.

It doesn't have a Manufacturers Warranty anymore.
But I don't know if I have balls to take the heatsink out of the video card.
I mean, I do with the CPU with my eyes closed, but I never did it with a video card.

If I do that, I'll have to watch some video on YouTube before.

Which thermal paste would you recommend?

Arctic Cooling MX2 or MX4, or Akasa Shinetsu.

take a picture of the card for us. what Revision is the GPU too?

is it this card?

ok read my previous message for a general guide. If you are still uncomfortable, take it to a PC shop and have them do it for you, Otherwise you may decide to get a RX460 or RX470.

Sorry for coming back here in this thread.

My r9 280x died the day after my last post here.

The PC neither boot up anymore.

I took the card off the PC, I plugged on to Onboard, I uninstalled all the drivers.
Then I connected the card on the PC, boot up on Onboard again.
I tried to install Driver ... crash in the middle of the installation. (Whea_uncorrectable_error)

Then I found this thread:

I took courage and did exactly like the original post, the only difference is that my oven is much smaller than his.

385 ° F (196 ° C) and bake my video card for 10 minutes, with the GPU facing down.

I waited to cool for 40 minutes, I put the thermal paste, heatsink, coolers and the cover.

The PC boot up!

I was able to install the Driver.

The only thing I did not do was test in games. When I take courage I'll test and I'll come back here to tell you if it worked.

Unfortunately it's not going to be a permanent fix. Expect it to do the same thing again sooner or later and, eventually , reflowing it wont work anymore.

Not a permenent fix. If it goes out again go find a RX460 (Full Unlocked model) or RX470
