Where are the ATI X2 Cards?

They were all killed in a car crash last week on their way to work at newegg. Didn't you get the memo?

Serious cost to manufacture the cards are now higher then the competitive price it would need to have because of the 5000 series.

They have been discontinued I believe, so that board makers can make the 5870/5850, and eventually the HD5900 Hemlock Dual-GPU card. A 5870 should be just as good as a 4870X2, and add DX11 support and uses less power. I believe a 5870 (1600 stream processors) uses the same amount of power as the 800sp regular 4870. Idle power consumption of the 5800 series is amazing.

The 4870x2's stopped being sold a bit ago, like right before the 5800's came out. The 4850's were only made by Sapphire, I assume once they stopped making them a while ago and once they ran out of stock that was it.

I would just suggest going for a 5850 or 5870, the extra power you would get from adding a 3rd and 4th GPU to your setup wouldn't be to beneficial as they don't scale well after the 2nd card.

They deliberately stopped making them a while ago so that they weren't left with useless stock when the 5k series came out. The same happened with the 3870x2 and the crossfire master edition cards of the x1k series. The new 5870x2 (or 5900, depending on the rumours) will be released within a couple of months - the x2 variants of a new series are always a couple of months behind the initial release.

Quad 4850's would most likely end up being slower than 2x 5850's since they OC so well. I wanted Quad 3870's before 4800's were out, but I realized when the 4800's came out it was too late and moving on would be a better choice. Now if you had managed to get 4 before 5800's came out thats fine, but when the new gen comes out, no point in buying older hardware. I would almost wager that a 5870 could beat out 4x 4850's, at least in games because of scaling, in benching the 4850's would be better.

You can buy 2 5870s and have the equivalent of 2 4870X2s, with much lower power consumption! Why invest in more 4870X2s when scaling >2 GPUs sucks, the cards aren't even made anymore so if one dies you're f*****, and they take up more power and don't have DX11? One 5900 when it comes out could probably spank Quadfire 4870X2.

Nostaglia? The 4870x2 hasn't even been out a year. The x1950pro AGP or the x850pro I have sitting in boxes are, still wish I had my 9800pro.
