Where to edit fake GTX1050Ti BIOS to fix memory size?

I didn't know that I bought a fake graphics card from ebay until it was too late. I tried re-flashing the card using CH341A with some 30+ BIOSes I matched on this site, but only about 2 or 3 would booted correctly. Windows though was terribly slow. I think the games are crashing because the BIOS that came with the card is reporting the wrong memory. Does anyone know where in the BIOS the memory size is located? Since I was not successful in finding a good replacement, I want to edit the ROM manually and fix it so it would report 1GB instead.

My card BIOS is the same as in this link: VGA Bios Collection: NVIDIA GTX 1050 Ti 4 GB | TechPowerUp

Appreciate any help.
Thanks

Here are the bios that match your version

Take pics of all memory chips on the card, front and back and a close up of 1,that will help determine how much ram is on the card, which is 1024MB or 2048MB. Also a pick of the video ports helps too

Also if you didnt know it wasnt a real 1050 ti why the piss keep it? Send it back for your money back, ebay guarantees it.

why didn't you just contact evey that you got scammed and get your money back?
and you can flash as many 1050ti bioses on this card as you want.. this is not a 1050 Ti.. this is something like a gts 450

By all the bios i pulled just by the version it can be any of the cards on the list depending on what ram and what chip is used...

Makes me sad that people still fall for these even if there is the whole internet warning about these...

Not going to blame the OP but some research would be good before buying these.

Yeah, I didn't imagine something something like this could happen. It been several months since I purchased it and all the time I thought it was a bad driver. :(

A week ago I never know what graphic card series are and what chips and all mean. Have been reading since and I am guessing the chip is a GF116-150-A1 (chip number is scratched out, no idea what the written text on the chip frame mean) and from the memory most likely is a 1024MB (Samsung K4G10325FG HC04). I have been trying the GTS450 BIOSes but haven't found the right match yet.

Just keep trying, there's been some cases that some bios just fits and then it works.

Read that entire point, 450 gts are no good but for use as a display adapter, not a graphics accelerator

Well, GTS 450 is fine for a retro gaming rig at least :) and when did you have a comeback? Just realized, nice to see you again here! :toast:

Try this. The BIOS you linked, but edited to report as a 1GB GTS 450. Rename from .txt to .rom to use.

Thank you so much! I edited the file to fix the checksum but otherwise it worked like a charm. Games not crashing anymore.

You're welcome; glad to hear it's working.

I see that Windows still thinks the card is GTX 1050Ti. Is there a way to fix the ROM to report GTS 450?

You need to verify what video ports are physically on the card and then look at file details on each bios here and verify those ports are present in the bios.

Theres a slew of them

Remove gpu drivers using display driver uninstaller and then get the proper driver frim nvidia

Added .rom and .bin to allowed attachment extensions on the forums :)

can you explain what your edit changes?

Have you uninstalled the drivers that came with it and reinstalled nvidia drivers? Seems like you may still have the hijacked driver installed on that pc. The file was edited to report a 450.

Value edited at 0000008E is just POST display text. You can put any garbage in there, really, as long as it follows a certain format. It doesn't affect anything, operationally.
Value edited at 0000018E changes the card hardware id to report as a 450v2 instead of a 1050ti.
Values edited at 00007D39 & 00007D60 are changes to the memory table, causing the card to report 1GB instead of 4GB. The Chinese bios was reporting an extra bank of memory that doesn't exist.

Hello,

How do you know the memory table template ? I got a fake 1050 Ti too, but with a "rare" setup : 2 GB of Elpida GDDR5 (8*W2032BABG-40-F) and GF106-250-KA-A1 chip (see pictures I posted on this french forum => https://forum.hardware.fr/hfr/Hardware/2D-3D/unique-collections-gpus-sujet_927918_402.htm#t10993573 ).

I could flash some 1 GB BIOS, but it's more fun to get the 2 GB, even it's useless on this GPU.

Image links don't seem to work when I try to view it, possibly chaton.noho.st not accessible from within the US? Can you post a dump of the BIOS?

My bad ! Here is an upload on imgur :
Important things are :

- Chip : GF106-250-KA-A1
- Memory : Elpida GDDR5 (8 * W2032BABG-40-F)
- I/O : VGA, DVI, HDMI

Memory have been tested to be a real 2GB (Cuda Memory Bandwidth Performance crash after 2 GB).
Frequencies reported by GPU-Z are weird : 750 MHz for GPU Clock and Memory.

I think it could be easier to start with a real GTS450 BIOS, using a model with same chip/memory brand/graphic ports and modify it to up the Memory to 2 GB.

Edit : Here is an Asus BIOS which seems to be ok (GF106 (not GF106B), Elpida Memory, same ports) : https://www.techpowerup.com/vgabios/101520/asus-gts450-1024-110127

It's frequently easier to modify what came with it. They tend to clock the memory low or with oddball timings because it is defective binned ram.

I don't speak for anyone else but I also purchased one of those fake 1050 cards and I KNEW it might very well be a scam but I got it anyway because:

1. I am NOT a gamer
2. I literally just needed more video ports for my 4 monitor set-up
3. I work in tech so anything wrong with it, I could fix myself
4. Was curious to see what these fake cards were all about if it did turn out to be fake
5. Had a little hope that maybe I hit the jackpot and was getting an actual 1050 as advertised
6. I had some money to burn and @ $105 it was doable
7. My knowledge in graphics cards was non-existent. I figured I'd learn something useful if it turns out to be a fake

It was definitely a fake. Went through a whole lot of crap trying to get it to work. In the end, I finally succeeded and actually met my needs very nicely. But I like tinkering with tech and wanted to try the fixes I kept seeing online for these fake cards. Yesterday I screwed up when I accidentally flashed it using the wrong BIOS. Tried to fix my mistake by flashing it using BIOS for a GTS 450. It was a success but when I installed it and checked GPU-Z, it identified it as a 440. I double-checked the BIOS I used and it was a 450. I downloaded it from here; is mislabeling a frequent issue here? I'm guessing not. Probably just that one file.

So now I took it out of my computer again and will attempt to flash the original Chinese BIOS back. I know for a fact that I had saved a back-up for it using ASProgrammer. I even recall naming it "FAKE BIOS." However, I can't seem to find it. It's like a curse, this card! LOL.

Would anyone know where I can obtain an original BIOS for this fake Chinese card that serves my needs very well and I shouldn't have tried tinkering with? My card is identical to the OP's. It's sold as a NVIDIA GeForce 1050 Ti. The GPU on mine is a GF106-250-KA-A1.

When I flashed the other BIOS, I got the same issue as the OP of wrong memory amount reported by GPU-Z, only mine didn't show 4 GB as advertised but reported 0 memory.

You got ripped off at $105 even you can get a legit card for less than that

Go on ebay and you will find legit 450 gts for 25 dollars which happens to be a fake 1050ti, 780 ti, 960, etc...

hello siryoink. Would you be so kind to help me modify my bios, I want its show only 1GB of ram, or could you explain a little more in depth, or how the value of 1G is given. Thanks a lot
