So this is probably like my third post on this topic but the ole Vega 56 just can't do it anymore. Games like RDR2 and Fallen Order have me down to like 40-50FPS on the lowest settings and nearing the lower limits of Freesync 2. So, as much as I tried to hold off, I just can't do it. Right now I am leaning toward either the Founders Edition or the Ultra XC as this card is likely just a stop gap until later next year when the new generation of cards becomes available. However, for a small sum more I can get what appears to be a better overall card in the MSI.

What do you think? Keep in mind these points:
  • This will likely be replaced in a year or less depending on GPU reqs for CP2077.
  • If I can find a 2080 Ti for less than $1k then I will buy it and likely skip next gen all together.

3440*1440 resolution right? Why not get a good 5700XT? It should make best use of FreeSync2 I would assume.

Or how about waiting for big Navi to drop at least?

MSI Gaming X Trio was the quietest out of the box among the 2080S we tested, so I'd recommend that.

I recently helped a buddy with a 3700X/2080 super build and he went with the Msi Gaming X trio on my advice. The card runs super cool and quiet even out of the box it was hitting around 2000Mhz boost clocks and didn't break 72c even when overclocked.

If you hate RGB it's definitely not the card for you though. I like the way it looks personally.

I recommend higher-clocked RX 5700XT instead of much more expensive 2080 Super. For the example, Sapphire Nitro+ RX 5700XT Special Edition or XFX RX 5700XT Thicc III Ultra. Someone made a direct comparison of these two:
In other words, 2080 Super is a bad option considering its very high price tag and unnoticeably higher in-game FPS.

Another good option is used GTX 1080 Ti with valid warranty since it will basically perform as RTX 2080 - meaning negligibly slower than RTX 2080 Super.

The 2080 S is 17-26% faster depending on resolution over a range of games I'm pretty sure the OP is aware of this and has decided the 5700XT isn't good enough regardless of how good a value it is. He plays at 3440x1440 I believe so he's likely going to be in the 20-22% faster range. Pascal is pretty terrible in RDR2 a game the OP stated he plays so I doubt he's keen on picking up a 2-3 year old 1080 ti.

I have contemplated picking up a 5700xt but 50-60fps at the lowest settings is not that much more appetizing than the 40-50 I get now. I'll be honest in that the 60-70 fps I will get with the 2080s is not that particularly appetizing either. Sigh.

I know the price sucks but I've really enjoyed my 2080 ti even coming from the Titan Xp the difference has been more than I expected especially once overclocked.

If I was in your boat I would probably try to find a used evga variant on Ebay given the warranty transfers.

Wait for big Navi then. This GPU cycle is getting to the end. Amprere and maybe RDNA2 based GPUs will come out next year. I would wait at least until CES to see what they announce first.

This is the thing. If, theoretically, an RX 5700XT pulls on average 50 FPS (let's say high level of details) in newest GPU-demanding games with your resolution, an RTX 2080 Super will pull 60 FPS in the same configuration. Humans can hardly notice such small differences.

There will be always trolls who will claim that they can notice 10 or 15 FPS difference and that is was absolutely and unquestionably worthy to spend $$$$ or €€€€ for such negligible difference (eg. going from perfectly working GTX 1080 to GTX 1080 Ti or some similar scenario). They literally behave like this:
eFfmdb3g.jpg

With the most powerful consumer GPU like RTX 2080 Ti in the same scenario as mentioned above, you will be able to pull maybe 68 FPS, of course, if you are ready to waste your money and spend beyond ridiculous premium for this GPU. As a matter of fact, you can buy two RX 5700XT, buy 850W or 1000W 80 Plus Gold PSU and still have some money left compared to a price tag of a single RTX 2080 Ti. Two RX 5700XT will surpass the performance of a single RTX 2080 Ti and beat it in overwhelming majority of games.

Used RTX 2080 Super/Ti cards? That depends on where you live and how lucky you are to grab some excellent deal. Although it's extremely unlikely that you'll find perfectly working examples for the reasonable price.
Personally, I wouldn't spend more 430 € with included shipping costs and/or taxes for a GPU, regardless how popular it is. But that's me.

Yes lol... with that scaling, the fact that crossfire isn't even a feature on the 5700 and you have to hack it to enable it, the lows and the fact only some DX12 games are supported; that it's so rare there are hardly any actual reviews of it... It definitely beats a single 250W 2080ti in the "Overwhelming Majority of Games". You should definitely go with 2 slower GPUs from a company that isn't multi-gpu anymore, instead of a faster gpu that will be easy to sell down the line once you're ready to upgrade, because it's still relevant.

Excellent. Also if you're thinking about a 5700xt, don't waste your money -- you can get a used set of 580s for less money, overclock them, and an 850W power supply, and it will be faster in the overwhelming majority of games.

It's hard to believe that people are still pushing Crossfire or SLI with such little support from Developers and AMD and Nvidia.

Amazon warehouse deals has that MSI TrioX refurb for $699 if you wanna save $50.

Right now is kind of not a great time to buy brand new; since the next gen isn't so far away and the rumors are 58/5900xt and the upcoming 3 series are going to be lowering prices in the current high end.

If this thing had the 20% deal that Amazon Warehouse sometimes does, I'll throw my wallet through my monitor.

Resently bought a EVGA Ultra XC and FTW3 RTX 2080 and both were flawless. EVGA is doing really well with GPUs lately

The Palit / Asus cards are 31 dbA with the "quiet BIOS " (aka lower performance settings) but among those running at full tilt ... the MSoi is also the quietest @ 32 dbA.

As far as the 57000 XT being competitive .. . with both cards OC'd. The equivalent card to the 5700 XT is the 2070 (non super) with both cards overclocked, the 2070 is faster

Using the logic of someone posted above:

“Can your eyes see a difference between 121FPS and 184fps?”

OP has Freesync2 monitor which is why I think AMD GPU would better suite him. Also maybe even a Radeon 7?

Way too many quotes to manage with a phone but I seem to have resolved some of the playability issues and at least smoothed out the games. Stuttering and freezing and have been minimized so at this point I can stick this on the back burner for the 3rd or 4th time.

That said, I will never do multi gpu again. I spent more time using a single gpu than having both working. If I do need to buy, I'll likely pick up the gaming x trio.
