Just flashed my HIS 5850 to the MSI BIOS. I know this gives you higher clock limits in CCC but I was wondering if one was superior to the other in any other ways for overclocking.

Yes, it is uses higher voltages. Shaders locked hardware, so bios has nothing to do with this issue.I love you. I was looking for that. I'll get on it as soon as I can. The 5870 BIOSs have higher voltage as well, right? Does flashing a 5870 on a 5850 cause any screw-ups with the missing shaders that anyone knows of?

I use that exact voltage to run 950/1250 on my 5850's. I did make sure to take the cooler off my card to check what kind of RAM it had. The same Samsung GDDR5 as on the 5870 in my case.

You don't need a new bios to do that. A different bios won't make any difference. To overclock past the CCC limits using afterburner, you need to go into the afterburner .cfg file and change the overclocking limit value from 0 to 1.
Different 5850's use different memory. While the clocks may be the same the timings/latencies could be different and you could mess your card up by flashing it.

Sure, looks like i found maximum practical numbers for my card, it's the same 950/1100 with 1.25 vcore. I can run 1000/1200 on it, but it is not stable and freezes sometimes.Belitsky please keep us updated on your o/cing progress for your 5850 as I will too and see where we can get these at stable Dragon
