The power button was never touched nor any components. The monitor showed mobo logo but did not go to POST and shuts off. I leave the mobo out in the open.

Thanks

Could be a power fluctuation. Try putting your system in a case (this way it'll be grounded correctly). Then see what happens. :toast:

Well if you dont have any animals then it could be a ghost because ghosts manifest themselves by gathering electro stuff in the air. They dont like cats/dogs for some reason..

Could be true. Ghosts DO exist but they are invisible and cannot be touched and cannot hurt you (IMO). Ghosts are playful when it comes to stuff impacting electric such as computers.

Very true. If something happens like that, blame your psu or a ghost  too bad I have two cats and two dogs or I might have had some experiances :( My house is 98 years old..

Ghosts could be it too.. I think my house has ghosts in it. =\

Perhaps LAN Wakeup? Check your bios's power settings.

PS2/USB powerup. on my systems it only takes a press of the spacebar to turn them on (not wake from sleep, actual power on)

I encountered a problem similar to this before. The tower was used for over 6 years and the computer was turned on & off often like every day or every other day. The solution I found was that the actual power switch itself was faulty and sticking. My fix was that I unplugged the reset and power switches. I then used only the reset switch and plugged that into the PWR_ON header on the motherboard. So my physical power switch now does nothing and the physical reset switch controls the computer power on function. I don't have a reset function anymore.

It happened to me too, but it wasn't paranormal. It was the wake up setting in BIOS, Wake up on PCI something like that... It was fixed by turning it off (Darn PCI TV tuner card made me think ghosts was playing with me).

All "Power on by . . ." options or any slight derivations in BIOS are disabled before the incident. The self-power on never happened to me before. This was the first time. It only turned on then shut down one time

I had it happen to me once, I blamed an entity that wanted attention as my TV also came on a few days later with the remote on top of the set.

It's probably a wake on setting though, I wouldn't be worried about ghosts just yet.

An update and some miscommunication with the witness. I did not see it for myself. She said there was a steady bright red light of line on the lower extreme of the mobo, CPU fan was working, ethernet card light was not lighting up, and she said she did not see the power on light of the case so it seems the power on light is not on because it is very bright and should be seen. She did not smell or see smoke. The screen showed something about "Please insert disk..." and many other words that filled up the screen. I knew it did not go to POST because I made my POST do beeping sounds and she did not hear them. It stayed like this for some minutes, maybe 5 then shuts down. I turned on my computer and everything is working properly and normally.

hey fellas, my pc also turned on by itself today just after i only flipped the PSU switch which i happen to turn off at nights.

LOL, it's definately not a ghost as they don't exist. Probably an option in the BIOS.

dude the guy is from Iraq, they don't even use our alphabet there. :slap:

Did you image your OS from a copy of Norton "GHOST". They had an older release that actually had a past employee (Typing accident) that lived inside of version 1.2. But "fred" is harmless, he is known for only doing things such as turning your pc on and off, traveling through your wifi to other devices, and usually plays peek a boo with your tv's parental controls.

yeah he is trying his best and i must commend him, i know i will be hopeless if i try to write in arabic lol
